Take a look at the movie ads and

out In the guise of entertainment.
Men from Mars and all that ba

tallies came In. Any picture that
talked could go out and make a

They aren't going to tinker with

Bogart said that he and John
Huston were ready to start their
European' venture, "Beat the
Devil," when the 3-D revolution
broke out.
"We were in Italy when we read
a copy of Variety telling all about
It," he recalled. "Big panic I Every
thing Is a crisis to John and he
was running around trying to get
one of the new lenses. Finally,
cooler heads prevailed, and we shot
the picture 'flat and black.'
"But we got a good picture. I
think the public will still buy 'flat
and black' pictures If they're
good."
While he was In an argumenta
tive mood, Bogart added another
blast at Hollywood glamor girls. I
trust this does not Include his wire,
Lauren Bacall.
"They should take a lesson from
the European actresses," he said
scornfully. "Like Gina Lollobri-

She can make her own wigs,

mean make them I She can make
her own eyelashes too, and she
wouldn't think of asking anyone to
put on her makeup or costumes.
She does it , an herself... .
"Can you Imagine these Holly'
wood hot-house flowers being asked
to do something for themselves?
They'd probably faint dead away."
Bogart returned to his Hollywood
haunts looking fairly healthy-i-for
