CHICAGO I Hogs were quot
ed nominally steady Saturday at
the end of a week in which a sharp
drop in shipper demand brought
about a decline In prices. Losses
for the week ranged from 24 to i
75 cents aftcr a seven month peak
at $22.10 was reached Monday.
Lighter weight hogs showed the
most decline because of the lack
of shipper demand, usually con
centrated on these offerings. Ship
ments were the smallest in four
years. Receipts were 30 per cent
smaller than in 'the same 1953
week. Wholesale pork showed a
little strength. , ' .
In the -cattle section slaughter
steers and heifers closed mostly
40 cents higher. Receipts of all
classes or cattle were more than
50 per cent greater than in the
like week lost year. Cows held
steady, but bulls and vealers 'de
clined. Stockers and feeders gain
ed $1.00.
Slaughter lamb prices advanced
for the week. Eastern shipping
Interests became aggressive buy
ers at the close, sheep declined.
