Local' agent-lD-charge Clinton Harvey said today it is possible to handle many more persons who desire help with income tax returns than has been. He said there art four persons available to provide assistance. "And as yet," Harvey said, "no one has had to wait very long to receive help". Income tax returns are due March 16 this year, because the traditional jdarch It date comes on s Sunday. R. S. Oranquist, director of. NEW YORK UP) Vincent Pugh. gS-year-old tuberculosis victim whose attorney ssys he hs only B year to live, was acquitted last night of two murder charges in the shooting of his wife and step daughter July 17. An all-male Bronx County Court Jury returned the verdict after de. liberating 3 hours and 15 minutes. ; The defense had called M . wit nesses during the six-week trial to prove that Pugh, a war veteran, was temporarily insane at the time of the shooting:. Pugh, a chauffeur, was held aft er the fatal snooting of nis wue, Eleanor, 37, and her daughter. Mrs. Jane Cur ley Whalen, 32, in their Bronx apartment. The shoot ing followed an argument during which, Pugh testified, his wife taun ted him by suggesting he wss sot the father of their i-year-old son, Vtncent Jr. .. The boy, who was boms st the time of the shooting and ran out doors calling neighbors, was In the courtroom when the Jury freed his father. Pugh hugged the boy, whom be had not seen , since the slaying. . j Spectators in-the court room cheered the verdict. Defense Atty. Bernard R. Lauren wss mobbed by men who pounded him on the back snd women who smothered him with kisses. Lauren ssid in his summation that treatment of Pugh's illness had not been successful snd that his client expects to die within a year.
