mas month for the local postoffice,
and figures released today by
Postmaster C. L. Langsle(t, ahowed
it.
Receipts for last month totaled
SOO.676.03, up 4.7 per cent over the
aame month a year ago.
During 1952 the local postoffice
and Its branches did business totsl
ling t281.412.47 as compared with
the 1951 business total of I271.75i.21
Man Killed In
Auto Plunge
YREKA Ous R. Johnson 77, a
resident of Elk Creek, was found
dead Tuesday afternoon In the
wreckage of his automobile which
had plunged over a 150-foot em
bankment on the Elk Creek road
near Happy Camp. .
The scene of the accident was
some 20 miles from where an auto
mobile carrying 11 persons, all In
diana and residents of Happy
Camp, plunged Into the Klamath
River last Saturday,
Johnson was alone In his car.
The car tracks were noticed by
a woman who went for help and
directed a Forest Service crew to
the scene to recover Johnson's
body.
He is survived bv a sister. Eliza
beth Johnson Howell, of the Klam
ath River area. Johnson was a
native of Ouadelupe, Calif., and
had lived in Siskiyou County 23
years. He was not married.
The automobile In which the IK'
dlsns were riding still has not been
located In the river. Presumably,
five persons perished in It. A sixth
thrown out, died of injuries, and
live others were hurt.
