But 8awyer said Tuesday he hasn't resigned officially, as yet. Sawyer talked with newsmen sft er Phillies president Bob Carpenter said: He had not received Sawyer's resignation; he had not talked re cently with the former Phillies pi lot about readjustment of Sawyer's contract: that ss far as the Phillies were concerned Sawyer would con tinue at his present job of "eval uating the farm clubs of opposing major league ban ciuos and uie players under their jurisdiction." Sawyer retorted that he had not resigned, as was reported in a statement lasued by him for pub lication. Asked if he was going to con tinue in baseball, he replied: "Whv snouid, I?" "I have had mv fill of It," he said. Sawyer was replaced In mid- season last year by Steve O'Neill after the Phillies took a nose dive from the high level which had been set for them in pre-season ratings. OdellHas No Plans SEATTLE tl Howie Odell, Washington football coach "with out portfolio," returned home Mon day night and said be had no plans for the future. His davs as head coach of the Huskies appear defi nitely numbered. Washington athletic director Harvey Cassill has said he will recommend to the board of Re gents that Odell be let go. The Regents are scheduled to meet later this month. Odell. whose contract has a year left, said that while he was in San Francisco as head coach of the West In the East-West Shrine game he received one offer from another school, but he was not even considering it. If he is let out after five years at the Washington helm he pre sumably will be paid off for his unexpired year. His salary, never maae puonc oniciaiiy, is reputed to be about $15,000 annually. Odell declined to amplify his re cent statement that "personal dif ferences" with Cassill were at the root of the trouble.
