Cox snapped back: "Don't tell me time is short, I know It." Then came the end of the re cording. "I'm at (.800 feet. Can you hear me? "I'm coming on down." There was silence in the Abilene control tower. . His friends hoped that Cox had changed his mind and landed at Sweetwater, but in a few min utes there was a telephone call from Sweetwater telling of the : crash.
