KLAMATH AGENCY The war ring factions of the Klamath In dian tribe called off their squab bling yesterday and wound up the last tribal meeting of 1952 In rec ord time just one day.' It has been years since the In dians concluded the scheduled bus iness of a Tribal Council 'gather ing in such short time. The Indians yesterdey voted to restore a sioo.oc; asn they had previously made 1 helr 1953-54 fiscal year budget, a cut which was aimed primarily at reducing the costs of personnel and which the Bureau of Indian Affairs had claimed would Jeopardize the oper ation 01 the reservation forestry program The bureau had held up approval of a proposed timber sale until the budget cut was reconsidered. A five-year cutting plan now Is proposed bv the Incians. bv which approximately half a billion board Santa Phone Calls High Klamath members of the Junior Chamber of Commerce put through some 900 telephone conversations to 8ants Claus over, the special hookup the past three nights ana hsd facilities allowed would prob ably nave doubled that easily. During the three' nights 468 in dividual phone calls were needed to get the total youngsters' mes sages through, or about two con versations per call. Chairman Wayne Plalsted report ed phones ringing fast and furious ly kep Jaycee operators busy dur ing the phoning periods. Members of the Jaycee-ettes are sending postal cards to all the youngsters, showing that Santa wss in receipt of their messages. The All Dry Budget Bundle serf lee at Men's Band Laundry saves yea time and imy! feet of ripe timber will be har vested. The plan Is to sell aoprox Imately 100.000.000 board feet of Umber each year for the next five years. The Indians also more or less reversed themselves on the subject of grazing fees, which had been ordered doubled from the minimum fees charged for cattle and sheep gras ng this past season, since only one bid was received for a grazing permit at the higher rales, the tribe voted to adoot an 38 per head minimum for cattle graslng on one unit, and 36 per head minimum on other units, rather than the 310 minimum voted earlier. Boyd Jackson and Wsde Craw ford will be sent to Washington, D. C. to attend sessions of the next Congress as delegates from the Klamath tribe, and the tribal executive committee Is to meet in the next few weeks to outline policies the tribe wants its delegates to work for in Washington. The policies are expected to per tain to hunting and fishing regula tions on Indian lands, and the re peal of Indian liquor prohibition. Dlbbon Cook, Delford Lane nd James Johnson were elected to the tribal enrollment commltee. The Tribal Council also voted ap proval of an ordinance calling for establishment of an Indian court on the reservation, primarily to deal with Juvenile problems and minor crimes until such time as the State of Oregon assumes Jur isdiction for law nforcement on the reservation.
