out against what he termed "so

The AMA up to now has taken
a stand in opposition on only one

dent Louis H. Bauer said a recom
mendation that the government
buy health insurance for -ome
social security beneficiaries out of
social seourity funds spells 'com
pulsory health insurance" and
eventual control of health services
by "big government." i
The AMA intends to thumb
through the entire report before
commenting on all of it.
Truman, who battled through the
years for a compulsory health
insurance plan financed by payroll
taxes on employers and employes,
found the new proposal satisfactory.
He said he hoped it would be
carried out.
Whether his endorsement will
have weight with the incoming
Republican Congress is. of course,
questionable. Truman couldn't get
compulsory health insurance ap-
j proved even when the Democrats
ran Congress.
