The ice glased shore lines serve as gro tesquely mirrored warnings re flecting the multiple horrors of being frozen in Waiter's death cold grip. So these birds wing on intoning monotonously about their many vicissitudes in quack-talk and honker-talk. V-shaped across the barren stretches ever-southward But these long flights take lots of vitality and when the wearied fowl come in for a frustrated landing for fear not enough food they'll lind to go around, their vo ciferating squawks multiply into an unceasing noisy din. Then the sport-loving hunter comes along. Bang! off they go again. 'Tis a wonder the birds are as nice and fat as they are this fall. A literal translation of "jim-dandy" means the "greatest financial success" the East Side Orange Home Economics club has ever enjoyed In their history. These ladies feel ro darn good about it all that In deep sincerity they want to thank each and every donor for their generous contribu tions which, without same, the Grange Bazaar could have never neen the success that it was. Also Chairman Nera Mulkey who ram rodded this thing through was deeply gratified by the splendid cooperation she received from those who were not appointed who helped. "It was all so won derful!" she said. Another thing the ladies were especially pleased about was the orderliness and clean, fun-loving behavior of the large, congenial crowd. The Grange members contrib uted the food and everybody is happy to have shared in the sup port ol a very worthy community organization, and to have had a line social evening. Mrs. Elizabeth Smith has been confined in the Alturas hospital for the past two weeks, suffering from an heart ailment. She was some better on Tuesday when Mrs. Annie Gallagher dropped in to see her. A physician was summoned for Walter Butler early last Sunday morning as he was feeling very low. Poor circulation and possibly a weakened heart, aggravated by a diabetic condition was given as the cause ol his trouble. He was some better Monday but is still having trouble with his legs which give him considerable discomfi ture. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Hartzog re turned last Thursday afternoon, Nov. 27, after spending nine days visiting with Dave Hartzog and family at Pullman, Wn. Don Cancmlllla and his crew of four Christmas tree cutters left here late lest Monday eve for their homes near San Jose. Don was here about 17 days, making his headquarters at the State Line Motel. They cut trees off of the Art Lenkeit tree farm. You've heard of live wires yeah? Well anyway this Cancimillla fellow Is one. He has a store down near San Jose pretty fair sized one. He sells his Christmas trees on an adjacent lot beside his store SI per foot. He shas a bulldozer and two trucks docs contractual road work on the side as well as plumbing Jobs and ioiiows tne carpenter work and cement linlshing trade some. He plays the clarinet and saxanhone having had his own orchestra during World War U. He played in nearly every country In Europe. Two of his boys returned Sunday evening to pick up another load of trees which he left behind. Thev haul from 1.000 to 3.000 trees per load depending upon their size. Charlie Dobry Jr., left Tuesday to enter the naval hospital at Brem erton, Wash., to receive treatment for a recent foot injury. Mi. and Mrs. Frank Paygr and son attended the Oregon-Oregon State football game in Portland over the weekend. Mrs. Charles Hamilton and Mrs. Beis McCulley attended the Amer ican Legion Auxiliary meetings in Lakeview last week. Mr. and Mrs. Phil Blohm are visiting relatives in Portland and Eugene. Mr", and Mrs. Jerry Rajnus spent last week in Portland attending the commissioners' convention and the football game. The building housing this mod crn plant is 100 feet by 200 feet made of nine construction with new type plastic skylights and has cemem nooring throughout, which provides ample room for swift earner operations. Tne Raymond Fisher fnmilv moved Into their nice new home just north oi the Kelly Creek School on the site where once stood tne old residence known as the Kuntz place. It seems good to see the light shining through the big picture windows while passing alor,g at night. That spot was so dark so long there beneath the big trees that once shaded a cozy little residence. Raymond has his front yard pretty well graded up already even has some rows of berry bushes and stuff set out. Water Is supplied to the home by two springs that Come by pipe for a quarter of mile or so up on the foot hills to the east -The place Is thus assured of ample water from the 2.000 gallontank built just below the springs and it will produce an abundance - of pressure. Roy Pariln presented our estab lishment with a keep-sake, which was very thoughtlul and we ap preciate It. It Is a keep-sake be cause it Is so large we can never use It all up.
