Bui with Ihe eventual con solidation ol county schools under the present ayatrm, tile high school wss llrat disbanded, then the building was convered Into a gym nasium when the old gym was torn down; finally the elementary acnool was all but done away Willi, only ihe llrat live primary grades be ing retained in one room. Tlie gymnasium was purchased by the local Orange. All this waa done In the lace ol bitter protest 01 the majority ol local taxpayers and In spile ol the rllorta ol the Fort Klamath School Board, ol which I was a member at that lime; I have a vivid recol lection ol the rllorta made to keep our schools. Maaa meetings wrre held snd appeals made to County School Superintendent Fred Peter sen as well as l) members ol the County school board, but all la no avail. Nothing aa lrlt except the first live giades, Ihe pupils Irom the aixih grade on up traveled by bus Irom Fort Klamnth to the Cniio qu.n reboot. Most local people strongly re lented Ihe removal ol tlie schools, but were lorced to make Ihe best ol the alttiation. and have indeed done ra as graceluily aw possible. However, one good aspect ol the ensuing period Is that lor the past eight years Fort Klamalli has been most fortunate In having a line Instructor lor the live grades spsred to us here. She Is Mrs. Frank Annal Strahan, who with the opening ol the current lall term. Sept. Jnd, atartrd her nlntli consecutive year here. Througnoul these years, many parents have had cause to be grateful to Mrs. Strahan lor giving their lout the proper education as well as char actrr building and Individual atten tion which Is ro all-Important dur ing the Impresalnnable. formative years of early childhood. This. Mrs. Slralisn has done con sistently and although loved by all her pupils, she Is also respected by them fr the strict classroom discipline maintained at all times. During all thr years of her tutelage here, there has yet to be heard any edvrr.se criticism, which is very unusual In a small commu nity and a high tribute to Mrs. Strahan. Indeed, It is not going too far to say that she has the high regard and esteem ol the enure community . . . During the year, she takes her pupils on outings and picnics, and enjoys herself as much as they do on these happy occasions. Her success with youngsters Is due in great measure In her genuine love ol children, although she has none of her own. Oreatly Interested In youth ac tivities here, she Is a lender of the Horlron Cub of Camp Fire Olrls of Fort Klamath and Chloqiiln, and she also assists her husband In Ills work as scoutmaster of the local scout pack, comprising Cubs, Boy Scouts and the Explorer group. The pack Is one of the most auc cesslul In Klamath County. She Is also active In community allalrs, ls a member ol the local women's organisation, he Civic Improvemen Club, and also aids In aollcllng lor lunds lor he Com munity Chest drive each yesr. Each Christmas, she arranges and directs a much-anctlclpated feature of the annua community Yuletlde entertainment, when she presents her pupils In a program in cooperation with the club and the Methodist Church. Mrs. Strahan has two pet hob blesshe Is a member ol the Na tional Audubon Bohlety, ls keenly Interested In orthlnology and last winter aonducted a Christmas bird count In this locality, assisted by a fellow enthusiast, Mrs. Bert Orsy Also, ahe and her husband are ar dent amateur photographers. Both belong to the Klamath Camera Club. Outstanding characteristic of the Strahans Is their ability to enjoy life thry actually get more fun Watch!! .Wait!! Mr. Cline exccus to be sent to Germany very soon, Mrs. Cline will join him there as soon nut of their busy day-to-day life than anyone I have ever seen. Each summer, weekends and psrl of the school vacation are spent at their Diamond Lake cot tage, when Mr. Strahan Is able lo lake leave of his duties as assistant state highway foreman here. At lovely Diamond Lake, thevftudy bird life, take pictures, swim, fish, hike and enjoy boat ing, and entertain a houseful ol company during their stay, and they love It all.
