BARNABAS GUILD MEETS LANGELL VALLEY The Guild of St. Barnabas Church met( at the home of Mrs. Bill Cunningham in LangeU Valley on October 3. with Mrs. Mike Dearborn conduct ing the meeting in the absence of the president. A card party was planned for October 11. at the Parish Hall at 8 p.m. Final plans were made for the annual turkey dinner and bazaar which will be held this year on November 1 at the high school, serving to start at 6 p m. Mrs. Ernest Graves was given a gift for winning the contest. The ladies sewed and enjoyed a social afternoon followed by the serving of dainty refreshments by Mrs. Cunningham. Present were Mrs. John Craven. Mrs. Paul Monroe. Mrs. Doug Smelcer. Mrs. Charles Partridge. Mrs. Grace Blaser, Mrs. Marion Lindsay. WMS Meets In First Baptist The Women's Missionary Society of the First Baptist Church, held its annual installation dinner at the church Oct. 14, at 6:30. The guests were seated at card tables covered with white cloths with a singler purple taper burn ing in a crystal bolder in the center. There were fresh lavender iiowers around the base of each holder. Throughout the room gard en flowers were attractively ar ranged. The Women's Missionary Society's Watchword "Laborers Together With God" printed in purple on a white background was bung on the wall. Mrs. Lawrence Weinberg, re tiring president, presided and ask Dr. E. M. Causey to give the Blessing, after which the guests enjoyed a buffet dinner. Assisting In serving and wearing aprons of white trimmed with purple, were Nole Hlgdon, Janice Robinson, Christine Tucker, Gary Nichols, Martin Causey, and Glen Allison. Between the main course and dessert a duet "How Long Must we Wait?" was sung by Mrs. Marion Biehn and Mrs. Ben McCollum. - Mrs. Edwin Boothby, Incoming president was Introduced with her new officers and Mrs. E. M. Causey presented each with a Scripture reference and a chal lenge for the new year. There were 56 guests In attendance. CDA Card Party A gala event of the fall season will be the annual Catholic Daugh ters Card Party, Nov. 13. Pro ceeds will go to the annual Church bazaar. All members are urged to spon sor at least one tame and every one is welcome. All types of card games will be in play and a prize is offered for each table. Refreshments will be served promptly at 7:30 p.m. and cards will begin at 8. For reservations call Jean Holland. 8837 or Eliza beta Brandsness, 7770. Barbara Mattis, Fort Rock, and Bud Baert, Sliver Lake, were mar ried Oct. 11 at Lake Tahoe, The bride Is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Muttla and the bride groom Is the aon of Mr. and Mrs. Al Baert, Silver, Lake. The young couple Plan on making their home at Sllvrr Lake after minting aea-t-on. The Tartars used to live here at Lama Vista about WW and La verne went to school with Edith Pitcher and Hasel Ward ,t Fre mont. They also visited their old homestead which 1 now owned by Roy Morehou-ie. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Rilncley. Roseburg, spent the weekend of Oct. 4, visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Ward and Charley Sting lev. PINOCHLE PARTY LANGELL VALLEY Mrs. Joe Potucek entertained at her home in Upper Langell Valley the after noon of Oct. 14, with a pinochle party. . , The Halloween motif was car ried out in tallies and decorations. Refreshments were served after prizes were awarded. High prize for the afternoon went to Mrs. Jack Welmer, low to Mrs. Charles Schmedli and traveling to Mrs. George Fernlund. Other guests enjoying the party were Mrs. Lewis Staller, Mrs. Les ter Leavitt and Mrs. Ted Schmedli. SOJOURNERS A no-hostess luncheon in the Ponderosa Room Oct. 22, preced ed the business meeting of So journers, Mrs. J. R Rhodes pre ssing. Cards were played after the meeting, with prizes awarded to Mrs. E. J. Cleary. Mrs. R. W. Fedder and Mrs. C. U. Dakin. Mrs. Clark Blair and Mrs. W. J. Payette were hostesses for the af ternoon. Mrs. L. J. Wataud and Kathleen O'Brien were welcomed as new members. Next meeting will be In the Ban quet Room at the Willard Hotel. Nov. 12, 12:30 p.m. no-hostess luncneon.
