Murvey, fire chief at Oregon Tech, won Best of Breed " honors to recent shows at Sacra mento and Chico, Calif. Freckles, also placing second in the Working Group at Sacramento, finished bis championship last Aug ust, dominating the collie show Tins In Oregon and Washington. His first major show win was t the Staten Island, N.Y., Kennel Club show in 1950, where he went Best of Breed for his first points toward his championship. Retiring from the New York fire department in 1951. Mulvey moved to Portland1 and recently Judged at the Klamath Falls Kennel Club Show. He was appointed lire chief on the mile-high campus in Sep tember. Also entered in the two California shows was Cloud Cap Cavalier, Tricolor male owned by Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Jester of Chiloquin. Cavalier placed Reserve dog at Sacramento and Winners dog at Chico, picking up his first points toward his championship. Disputed Tilt Gets 2nd Okay MOSCOW. Idaho m Another Pacific Coast Conference' official has given the disputed Idaho Oregon football game earlier this month a clean bill of health. Commissioner Vie Schmidt saw the movies of the game Wednes day and said he agreed with Frank Mccormick, PCC supervisor of of ficials, that questioned penalty calls by game officials were "Just a matter of Judgment." Mccor mick saw the movies last week. Schmidt said there was no evi dence of any mistakes by officials in application of the rules. Oregon won the game in the last minutes after trailing through most of the four quarters. Talbot Sold On Pro Game By GAYLK TALBOT NEW YORK For a long time at about this season of the year we have frequently found ourselves sneaking looks at certain members of the sports writing brotherhood and wondering If uiey had, per. chance, been bounced upon their heads in extreme youth. These fellows would go afield on cold, snowy Saturdays and attend college football games as a Job of work. They would return home late, frost-bitten and tired. They would bounce out of bed on Sun day, bright-eyed and eager, and beat their way through traffic to witness a professional football game on their day off, QUESTIONS In reply to casual inquiries, they said they did this because the pro game was vastly superior to the collcne brand. They said they found pure relaxation in watching skilled artisans in action after they had spent an afternoon with the rahrah boys. They didn't seem to think this especially strange, no matter what anybody said. Well, this in the nature of a con fession. After having been exposed. kicking and screaming, to the pro game twice this season, we are oeginning to suspect that it bears about the same relation to the college variety that the baseball Yankees do to, say, the Memphis Chicks. It isnt quite as noisy, but it is much finer football and much more consistently close and ex citing. ARGUMENT 1 Having done considerable argu ing on the other side, we are not going to propose that every club in the National Professional League can lick any college team in the land. We wouldn't . be sur prised if such campus outfits as Michigan State, Maryland. Okla homa and maybe two or three ouiers could step right into the money circuit and fully hold up their end. But the point is that there arcnt enough of them, and that it is all too seldom until the bowl games roll around that one gets to see two really powerful college teams nave i one anotner. .
