Detroit Dam Open Soon PORTLAND i.fi The Army Engineers reported Thursday that Detroit Dam on the North Santtam River would be open to the public Saturday. The dam. with a pow'erhouse at Its base, Is 49 miles east of Salem. Visitors will be taken on tours from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Although pouring of concrete Is about completed, work on the dam and reservoir will not be finished until next year. First power is ex pected in early 1953. Although the fourth of the Willa mette Valley dams to be built, it will be the first to produce power since Fern Ridge. AI.KXANDKR LIFT Publicity Chairman Highlights of the first meeting of County Council of PTA. Sept. u. at Fremont cafeteria, were a talk by Mrs. Ruth King of the Herald and News and an address by Car rol) Howe, Bupt. of Klamath Coun ty Schools. Mrs. King said the Herald and News will have a regular PTA column every Thursday and ex plained the best procedure for sub mitting news items to the paper for publication. Mr. Howe spoke on the "School Reorganization" bill explaining that by organizing schools in large districts schools would have an educational and economic ad vantage. Mrs. Virginia Dixon, Secretary of the local Red Cross, announced the bloodmobile will be in Klamath Falls four times a year in the future and will need six blood donors every trip from each PTA unit. The next scheduled visit of the bloodmobile is Sept. 15 and 16, at the Armory. Presiding at the meeting that drew a large attendance, was Mrs. Haean Moore, president. Mrs Moore announced that there will be a "School of Instruction ' Sept. 18, at the YMCA from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for all PTA officers and interested members. Mrs. Moore announced Ferebee Studio has extended to the officers of the local PTA units the cour tesy of free portraits for publica tion tor tne coming year, ine presidents are to contact Mrs. Moore regarding appointments. Presidents were reminded of the necessity to budget for legislation this year and to send the money to Mrs. Jerry Olson, Council treas urer, as soon as possible. Bishop Leipzig officially opened the six-classroom addition to Sacred Heart Academy on Monday morning. The new wing was designed by Howard Perrin, local architect, and the plans weie carried out by the Brosterhous Con struction Co. The project was car ried out under the direction of tne Very Rev. T. P. Casey, pastor of Sacred Heart Church. The new classrooms will house the elemen tary department of Sacred Heart, and made possible enlargement of both high school and elementary library facilities.
