Barrows and gilts lost 35 to 35 cents a hundred pounds, fall ing to the lowest points since June 25. Sows were steady to 2S cents higher. Cattle were mostly steady to 2S eents lower while sheep were steady to 25 cents higher. Most butcher weight hogs sold from 120.00 to $20.75. Sows were mostly 115.75 to $19.50. Good to prime steers continued to sell at $28.00 to $35.00. A few prime loads brought $35.25 to $35.75 . and one load topped at $36.00. Good and choice heifers were worth $28.00 to $33.00. The top price on native spring lambs returned to $28.60 while the best on old-crop lambs and yearl ings was $25.60. Local Persons Win At Fair Roberta. Pruett, Henley, was a Ted-ribbon winner In the frozen food division during the Oregon State Fair at Salem, according to reports reaching here. A three - girl clothing judging team from Klamath County also won red ribbons during their events at the fair. The team Included Kathleen Mar shall, Mary Wells and Martha Tu back. Judging covered all sorts of clothing, cloth goods and materials. Spuds Dug During Night PRINEVH.LE W The Septem ber heat, wave Is causing potato growers In neighboring Jefferson ounty to harvest their crop at night for the first time. The digging of potatoes started Tuesday, but was switched to night-time after the sun became too hot. The first shipments are expected to go to the San Francis co area Thursday. Growers In the Prinevllle area, where the harvest is scheduled to start Monday, said they would re sort to night work too, if the wea ther remains hot. RURAL SCHOOLS NEED HELP NEW YORK Iff! A teachers con ference meeting at Columbia Uni versity has called upon state gov ernments to adopt tax programs that will provide a sound and ade quate education for country chil dren as well as city children. The 36 educators included rural teach ers, district superintendents, and representatives from teachers' col leges and state departments of education. The two, who were fined $29 each this morning In Municipal Court for having a speed contest, were Howard John Cain. 1605 Portland, and Ralph Austin Hensley Jr., 707 Wendling, both 19. Police reported the boys lined up their cars at the Kit Carson-Esplanade Junction and took off. A police car followed and reportedly clocked the racers at 60 miles an hour as they passed the Portland Street intersection and 75 as they passed the city limits. The cars were halted at the North entrance Junction ani Cain and Hensley were arrested. Court Finds Mother Insane WINSTON - SALEM. N. C. HI Dr. Norma Holt, the woman doctor who two weeks ago stabbed three of her chlhfren with steak knives, one fatally, and then tried to take her own life, has been committed to the State Hospital at Raleigh. A Forsvth Countv Superior Court Jury yesterday found her mentally incompetent to stand trial for the Aug. 21 murder of her 3-year-old daughter Vickie. Four psychiatrists testified that the 27-year-old pediatrician, wife of Dr. L. Bverly Holt, prominent eye specialist here. Is "completely Incompetent by reason oi insanity. Police said the other two chil dren involved in the tragedy. Larry 9 months, and Anne. 4. have re covered from their wounds and are now llvlnir with relatives In Texas. Dr. Holt tried to kill herself after the stabblngs with an overdose of sleeping powders. The murder indictment brougnt bv a Brand iurv Is not nullified by the court's action, officials said.
