HASTY CH1M
1 pound ground beef
2 tablespoons lard or drip
pings 2 small onions, chopped

1 No. 2 can kidney beans
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons chili powder
teaspoon cayenne pepper
Brown the bref slowly in lard or
drippings. Add onions, tomatoes,
beans and seasonings. Cook slowly
for 1 hour. Water may hi ad-H
if desired and the seasonings can
be adjusted to Usie. 4 to b serving.
MEAT LUNCHEON SPECIAL
6 slices ready-to-serve meat
1 tablespoon prepared mus
tard 3 tablespoons flour
1 tablespoon' vinegar
Lard lor frying
Have slices of ready-to-serve
meat cut one-fourth inch thick. Cut
each slice into fourths. Dip in bat
ter made by combining prepared
mustard, flour, egg and vinegar.
Fry in hot lard until brown. 6 servings.

3i cup lard
V2 cups light brown sugar
3 eggs
24' cups sifted enriched flour
1 teaspoon cinnamon y
1 j teaspoon soda
i teaspoon salt
3 cups raisins
1 cup chopped walnuts
Cream the lard and sugar and
add the well-beaten e?gs. Reserve
one cup of the flour to mix with
the raisins and nuts. Sift together
the remaining flour, cinnamon,
soda end salt. Combine ingredients
and mix well. Place by spoonfuls
on a cookie sheet and bake in a
hot oven (400 F.), until lightly
browned. Yield: 8 dozen medium
cookies.
TOP TASTER
This dessert is a real conversa
tion starter. Drain a Jar of sweet
dark cherries. Pit the cherries.
Thicken the syrup with a table
spoon of cornstarch. Stir in 2 table
spoons brandy, the pitted cherries
and 1-3 cup roasted halved blanched
almonds. Add a drop or two red
food coloring if desired. Serve
warm over hard ice cream.
SALAD GOODNESS
Take advantage of the delicious
seedless grapes that are in the
markets these days. Combine them
with bite-sized pieces of canned
pineapple, cut marshmallows and
halved roasted almonds for a
good tasting salad. A sour cream
mayonnaise dressing is delicious
with it. !

Here's a tasty gelatin salad for
fall menus. Dissolve a package of
lime-flavored gelatin in 1!2 cups
hot apricot whole fruit nectar.
When partially thickened stir in 1
cup ripe olives cut from pits and
'2 cud diced cucumber. Turn into
individual molds and chill until
firm. ,

Homemade raisin walnut quick
bread cut into thin slices and
spread with peanut butter is won
derful sandwich fare for the school
lunch box. You can make the
bread with packaged mix or yoi
own recipe. You'll find it cuts bev-1
ter when it's a day old. Wrap each i
