I Rcpre centatives of 15 non-denominational churches in Washington and Ore gon formed an alliance at a meet ing at the Longview Community Church Tuesday. The organization will be called the Pacific Northwest Fellowship ol Community Churches and is ded icated to obtaining better coopera tion among similar churches throughout the Northwest. The Rev. Keith Kerr of Westport. Ore., was named chairman of the steering committee. He is Pacific Northwest representative of the In ternational Council of Community Churches. "This is not nor will it ever be come another protestant denomina tion," the Rev. Kerr said. "Out aim is to help churches of all types to concentrate on the Christian Ideals that unite instead of on Issues which divide." Churches represented were from Battleground, Vancouver, Or chards, Cresion, Alderwood Manor, Tenino. Tacoma. Mossyrock. Al mira, Bellevue and Minnehaha in Washington and Prineville, Port land and Westport, Oregon. Two Measures On Portland Ballot PORTLAND Wl The Portland City Council Wednesday voted to put two controversial measures on the November election ballot. One calls for establishment of a commission to handle parking pro blems and regulate operations of the Portland Traction Co. The council now handles these. The other calls for a two million dollar bond issue to finance a city slum clearance project. The note on Soviet spying in Sweden reierred to the conviction of six Swedish Communists last week on charges of disclosing se crets of the nation's northern mili tary defenses to Red agents. Indian Makes Timber Sale HOOD RIVER. Ore. If) Jim Slim Jim. an illiterate Indian, is to receive $18,865 for a tract of timber which he sold last year lor only 11,000. Jerry Clinton. Farkdale. Ore., bid $34.50 a thousand for the esti mated 770.000 board leet of timber which was auctioned here Tues day. Last year Jim sold the 80-acre tract three miles east of here to Fred M. Marsh of Lebanon, Ore. for $1,000. But the Indiana's friends filed suit to cancel the salt. Be fore the case came to trial Marh offered to settle out ef court. Master's Degree Program Backed ASHLAND OF) Chancellor Charles D. Byrne told the final ses sion of the two-oaj state Board al Higher Education meeting Tues day that its new masters degree program was enthusiastically sup ported by students. Enrollment at the state's three colleges of education this summer totalled 315 graduate students, he said. That is almost double the number expected. The three colleges were author ized last January by the board in education. Oregon State Colege and the University of Oregon op posed tjie plan. As the bus jolted along, the bas-1 ket lids came loose and the snakes escaped. - ' Some of the reptiles appeared on the windshield and others crawled i in with the driver. ! The snakes had had their poison i apparatus removed, but the driver t panicked and lost control. , The bus went off the road and fell into a chasm. The driver lived to tell how the crash occurred.
