New Social Security To Start In October About 3000 people in the Klamath Falls area will receive higher so cial security payments beginning early In October as a- result of the social security amendments which President Truman signed into law July 18, 1352. J. D. Oayley, acting manager of the Klamath Falls social security office, emphasised that no one Is to apply for the increased pay menu. "The Social Security Ad ministration is already changing the amounts," he pointed out. "We expect to get them changed in time to have them in the mail Oct, 3, the regular delivery date, but If In a tew cases we don't meet that schedule we II send the regular check and make up the difference in a later check." . Gayley noted that though nearly every lamily. receiving payments -'"mould receive an. increase, the additional amount would not al ways be divided among all the members of the family receiving rftonthly checks. In some cases the entire increase will go to the re tired worker. . 'Under terms of the law, most families will get sn increase of about $5; some will get less, some will get more. A few benefits now being paid, and most ef those pay able In the future, will be based on tarnlngs after 1950 instead of after 1036. The amended law provides a1 new formula for determining the amount! of the payments in these cases. Under it, a retired worker's Medford Man Makes Find PRINCE ALBERT. Sask. OB Two United States fish and wild life workers Monday reported dis covery of the summer breeding ground of the almost-extinct whoopinf crane, a mystery that has baffled ornithologists for more than half a century. They spotted two adult cranes In the marshes north of Great Slave Lake, one on July 11, one the next day. The two scientists are Robert Henry Smith of Medford, Ore., and Everett L, Sutton of Aberdeen, S.D. iThe significance of the dis covery. Smith said, can be gauged by the fact that only a few speci mens of this four-foot waterfowl remain on the North American continent. ' About 30 spend their winters on the Texas coast. 3,000 miles from where the birds breed. Beginning Sept. 1, the new law Increased to 75 a month instead of S60 the amount of money a benellclary may earn and still re ceive the monthly benefits. Self employed people entitled to old age and survivors Insurance bene fits may receive the payments for each month of the year If their net earnings during the entire year' are not over (900. The amended law contains a. provision of special Importance to seu-empioyeo people who have re tired or plan to retire during 1953. Before the passage of the emend. ments their earnings for the year in nnicn an application was made could not be used to fltura their old-sge benefit payments. Now. those self-employed people- who originally applied for benefits in 1953 may re-apply at the close of the taxable year and have their 1953 earnings used in figuring their monthly benefit payments. In gen- ! era), this will Increase the mothlv benefit payment to self-employed ' persons. , , A similar change in the law now i permits insured wage earners who retire in 1953 to have their wages for this year used immediately in figuring the amount of their bene fit payments. Heretofore, it was': necessary for them to come back I after the end of the year in order i to have all of their covered wages i tor iiK2 inciuoea in tne compute' I ion of the benefit amount. Another amendment allows bene ficiaries aged 75 or over already on the rolls to take advantage of the higher benefit payments pro vided under the . new formula, if they have had at least a year and , a nan oi covered work alter moo. The amended law allows social security wage credits of S10 lor each month of active military or naval service after July 24, 1947. This provision is simply an ex tension oi tne one wmcn already gives social security wage credits to servicemen of World War H.J It applies to service in the armed torces up to January 1. 1954. Of advantage to the survivors of deceased service people is a pro vision in the amended law extend ing the time for claiming a lump sum death payment. This applies to servicemen wno die abroad and are later returned to the United States for burial or reburial. Survivors who pay the burial expenses may now claim reimbursement up to two years after the reburial instead of two years after the serviceman's death. hion DENTURE GRIP ASSURE DfNTAl KATI COMFOIT ANO SICUJHTY tne) fljRi irritatiM tntftnllvl fr)j7 ling tv jryimnfl yw like .applet, tarn cob, car noli, tttgki withvwl wtablmf 4n- hint Hist cvuM Mf ml Luh, linfl; ftn tlt confidents)! limine.! worry a4 tmbw renmtnr mi ejttitvrti jrpppiitfl CUIHION DIKTlrtl III Jem mmnr wb, providing norvhodr ifif cvih.on trior teerH gumi eot nnd com fort It! oidt in tliminaimf dtnluro brtoth with iti nriitplic action.
