Navy Says Red Attack Is Only Operational Hazard WASHINGTON Iff The Navy has accepted the Communist jet fighter attack on one of its patrol planes over the Yellow Sea as an operational hatard ot the Korean War which is unlikely to prompt any diplomatic protests, from the U.S. at least. Naval officials in expressing this view Tuesday pointed out that American patrol planes and a squadron of British Navy flying boats hare flown about 13,000 sorties over the approaches to Ko rea and the not distant shores of China since the outbreak of hoslili ties in Northeast Asia. The patrol planes are charged with the specific task of keeping watch over the air and sea approaches to Korea. ;The most practicable of these lead through. or over the Yellow Sea which sep arates the Korean Peninsula from the mainland of China. The Navy early recognlied'thst the business of patrolling the Yel low Sea works both ways., ' Ten days before Allied warships began the Inchon landing bom bardment a Russian -bomber-' flew over a United Nations' naval for mation. After the Red-star marked plane refused to be warned off. and' ac tually opened fire it was shot down by U.S. naval aircraft. One of Its occupants -was picked up out of the Yellow.
