Wash, ifi Su perior Judge Robert T. Hunter Tuesday ordered a sanity exam ination for Matthias V. Swearson, 27-year-old Chief Joseph Dam con struction worker charged with slaying his wife and four children. The order was Issued as Swear son, who has admitted the slayinps at his Bridgeport home early Sun day, was brought up for arraign ment on five counts of first degree murder. i Judge Hunter ordered the car penter taken to the Eastern Wash ington Hospital at Medical Lake for examination by psychiatrists. Swearson told Bridgeport Police Chief Lyie Prothero after his ar rest Sunday he shot and stabbed his wife and children because "God told me to." I Gene Kensler, the editor, snd a photographer went outside the walls Tuesday to do a story on the nearby state game farm. Prison officials said Kensler evi dently gave himself a roving as signment ana "just, sept going." Kensler was serving a term for a grand larceny conviction at Ta coma. He was due to be released in December. Reverend To Enter Radio TACOMA OB The Rev. Loyal Vlckers, executive secretary of the Tacoma Council of Churches, re signed Tuesday to become a radio station manager in Oregon. He said the resignation would be effective Sept. 1 but gave no other details. Rev. Vlckers came here nine years ago from Oregon. He figured in several recent Tacoma vice cleanup campaigns. , ' Former Klamath Resident Passes ; ' Death came to Mrs. Joe (Clara) Wetzel, 73, in- Ashland yesterday, it was learned today by friends of the ex-Klamath Tails resident. A resident of Klamath Falls prior to 1928, Mrs. Wetzel made her home in Ashland the past year. She died In the hospital there after a long illness. She was a native of Iowa. Besides her widower, survivors include two sisters, Ida Bailey of Iowa and Josephine Wldner of Medford.
