Attending the regular meeting of the East Side Grange meeting last Saturday evening. July 19. was Mr. and Mrs. Yancey, officers of "the Klamath County Pomona Grange, The purpose of their visit was to help make plans for the big. two county wide Pomona Grange picnic 'Which will be held July 27 at Booth Park about twenty miles west of Lakeview on the highway toward Klamath Falls. A large crowd is anticipated for this event as a special pro gram of music, singing and var ious contests is being planned with numerous prizes to be awarded. All grangers and their guests are invited to attend this big gather ing. After the Grange meeting Sat urday evening the members pres ent enjoyed a few rounds of square dancing before the midnight sup per was served. Mr. John Noble, of Ashland. Oregon, who is visit ing his daughter. Mrs. John Rich ardson and family, called the turns. Mr. Joe Harris of Portland Epent a week recently visiting his daughter, Mrs. JoAnne Means and family. He had not seen his daugh ter for nine and a half years. The mining season is on again in full prospective force when mine owners are doing both commercial and .regular annual improvement work to hold their claims. The three most active mines at pres' ent are: Consolidated, owned and operated bv Elmer Ahlstrom and Raymond Powell, Lakeview. where a recently installed mill is working this summer; the KJondyke mine, owned by the Klondyke Mining Company and operated by Ed Ben efiel where also a mill is grind ing away; and the Moonlight Mine, owned bv Carl Fetch. Raymond Powell and Wellman Smith. The latter.- recently returned from Grants Pass, is getting heavy snow damage under repair and is making ready to extend the main shafts, both lateral and vertical. Wellman was somewhat vexed and perplexed, Monday Julv 21, when he went after water where it was piped from a spring along the road down at the old High Grade mine. He had been working there just the day before cleaning out the pipe etc., and had discon nected one lolnt of Inch and a half pipe. This he left lvlng beside the trench where It had been em bedded. When he took his barrels to fill with the nice cold spring water which he could catch from the end of the pipe when he connected it back un to his puzzled chagrin the joint of l'b inch pipe was gonel "Don't know whv thev waited iin. til now. Just when I needed It to steal It." he opined. "It's been there all the time. I got a hunch who stole It though and I'm sure going alter It." Bill Larkin of Alturas. Larkin and family of Santa Rosa who Is currently visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Bill Allen will also do Borne improvement work on his claim up In the High Orade dis trict. Oreson are spending a few days visiting wuh Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Palmer. Mrs. Slangy and Mrs. Wnlty Miles now of Dayville. Oregon, came for their two daugh ters. Barbara and Kathy, who have been visiting since the Fourth of July with the Palmers their grandparents. Wallv Miles, a for mer gypo lumber handler of Lake- view, is now in the logging busi ness at Dayville. He owns his own equipment and logs on rather a small scale but he had about 3 mil lion feet of logs to get out before the snow fUes this fall. Last year there were eighty youngsters in attendance at the camp and this year the forecast is that a much larger number will attend. The Ju verniers 'plan to depart Aug. 4. W. J. Sanford of Sacramento ar rived Sunday for a visit with his son. Earl Sanford and family. En route he visited relatives at Grass Valley and his daughter. Mrs. Bea trice Atcheson in Cedarville.
