The frroup includes Senator Cor don (B-Ore.) They probablv will acree on a House total of $492,434,900 and the 167,474.699 voted by the Senate. The appropriations are for proj ects in nearly all 48 states for the , year which started Tuesday. The Seriate added several new projects and increased Bouse fie res for other projects. Some of the bie items for which the senate voted funds but for which the house approved nothing (showing amount voted by the Senate): The Dalles lock and dam. Ore. and Wash., 30 million; Ice Harbor lock and dam. Wash., three million. . - Projects for which the Senate made big increases over House figures: McNary lock and dam, 'Ore. and Wash.. 60 million and 66 'million: Chief Joseph Dam. Wash.. ! 11 3 million and SJ8.30O.0OO; Albeni ; Falls. Idaho, six million and eicht , million. i Another point of difference is !that the House allowed no funds jfor drafting plans for proiects to j be built in the future and aiso cut .down considerably on budeet re commendations for examinations and surveys of other possible 'projects. It approved a total of sl.215.000 for surveys and exami nations. On the other hand the Senate allowed $6,465,000 for advance planning, surveys and examina tions. Friday. zri SHORTENING -"sff- 53' Mechanics Win Raise ASTORIA LB Astoria automo bile mechanics have a 40-hour week and a six-cent hourly pay raise, won oo the ere of a sched uled strike. The agreement was negotiated by the Astoria Central Labor Coun cil after operators and employees failed to' reach an accord.- The . strike had been set for Monday Bight. Mechanics had sought a pay raise of from $1.89 an hour to $2.10. The agreement gives the union a ' 40-hour week instead of a 43-hour week and a wage of $1.95 an hour, effective July 1. The 40-hour week was the prin eipal rquest of the union. Oper ators had balked at the hours, stating that such a contract would force closure of garages all-day Saturday. ( Whether garages will now close Saturday has not been announced. NO DECISION PORTLAND ISI After a lengthy City Council meeting here Tues day Portland had not yet decided whether billboards will be allowed on the proposed Banfield Express way. The road when completed will connect the Columbia River High way to the east with downtown Portland. AFL Pressmen Reject Offer rpirnut lim Ctrilrincr AVT. pressmen Tuesday night rejected management's latest offer in the 12-week-old Tacoma News Tribune strike "in every form," a union spokesman said. Terms of the offer were not dis closed. . The union official said the mem bership vote against the offer, submitted after a day and a half of negotiations, was unanimous.
