Dick Wolfe, the Northwest wel terwelght title holder, needs a win over a name fighter like Turner. Wolfe Is anxious for a go at bigger bouts. It he can whip Turner and gain the middleweight crown, it will be a big Jump up the fistio ladder. READY Both Turner and 'wolfe appear In the proverbial pink for tonight s fight. At the weighin today, botl. appeared completely confident. When two hard-hitters like Tur ner and Wolfe enter a ring feeling that way, chances are the fight will end with one of them on the teat of his pants while the third man in the ring counts slowly to ten. The KO punch could come from either man. Turner has full respect for Wolfe's wicked left hook. "He nailed me with it once good, ' says Turner, "and it really hurt." WHO'S WHO As for the champ, he's knocked out some of the best in the busi ness. His list of knockout victims plus his decision victims reads like a sparkling Who's Who ot boxing. Turner has KO'd such top flighters as Joe ' Ybarra, Billy McCoy. Jackie Burke. Sheik Rangel, Tony Chaves and Aaron . Perry. He has taken decisions from Charley Cato. Bobby Mann, Fred Apostoli, Cecil Hudson, Kid Cocoa and Jackie Wilson. With a record like that Turner should rate as a strong national contender is he could put Wolfe away without too much trouble to night. The Northwest champ had one Dig chance at the world's title when he fought Sugar Ray Robin son in IMS. For eight rounds. Turner battled the great Robin son on even terms but Robinson finally got to him with a payoff punch. PROOF Right now, Turner needs a good win over a strong young battler like Wolfe to prove his 32 years haven't cost hint any of his zip. Ringwise observers here opine that Turner is perhaps the most polished and smartest fighter ever to appear in a local ring. That's going to be Wolfe's big test. The welterweight champ can nit like a mule and he can take it but he's going to have to show plenty of ring savvy to get by Turner. Promoter Mack Lillard has lined up a fine supporting card. There's a special four-round feature bring ing Merrill's Ceorgie Price back to the Armory ring. Price, home on leave from the Navy, is now welter champ of his Navy base. Lillard was lucky in landing a good foe for Price tonight. He managed to latch on to Paul Kennedy, the sterling Los Angeles battler who's been attracting rave notices in the Southern sector.
