SIMMONS After Curt Simmons had pitched the Phils to a 2-1 triumph in the opener, Al Brazle and Ed Yuhas teamed up to shutthem out 4-0 in the nightcap. Lefty Billy Pierce and right hander Marvin Grissom turned in fine performances in the White Sox double win. Pierce hurled a six-hitter for his seventh win and Grissom gave ud seven hits for his fourth triumph. Eddie Robinson and Minnie Min- oso were the big guns as Chicago ripped oil 25 hits in the twin bill. Victory Here Big Step Up By WALLACE MYERS The Earl of Richmond, Northwest Middleweight King Earl Turner, was due here today for some final polishing up before his title fight at the Armorv Friday night against Indian Dick Wolfe. Wolfe Is ex pected to check in sometime to morrow. This is a big fight for both men; there's a good deal more on the line than the Northwest middle-' weight crown. For the champ. Turner, it could mean the beginning of the end or another entry into the national limelight. The California Negro's Hudson Cup Play Shapes OLYMPIA. Wash, Ml Chuck Congdon of Tacoma leads Pacific Northwest professional golfers competing for berths in this year's Hudson Cup matches, Olvmpia pro Dave Killen said Tuesday. iUiien. secretary of the North west section of the Professional Golfers Association, said Congdon has rolled up 475 points in five tournaments. He has three tour neys to go. The Nortnwest s ten top pro fessionals will meet the ten best amateurs in the Hudson Cup matches at Pendleton, Ore., in October. The Blue Swords colt followed the pattern of his Preakness victory while boosting his 1952 earnings to 1220,285 with the winner's $38,950 share of Tuesday's Suffolk feature. After breaking last in the six horse field of three year olds. Blue Man came on to score by two and one half lengths over Isadore Bieber's Klne Jolle in the mile and a quarter test New England's richest stake. Tur ner is 33 now and needs a convinc ing win over a younger man like Wolfe. ROBINSON Turner was up there knocking on the title door a few years ago. None other than the great Ray Robinson stopped that march by knocking Turner out in April of 1949. Need we say that it's no par ticular shame to be beaten by such as Sugar Ray? The champ won his right to the Robinson fight by whipping Fred Apostoli after Apostoli had won from Marcel Toil, the topflight French champ. Bringing Turner here for a title bout is a real feather in Promoter Mack Lillard's cap and the fans should flock to the fracas. It's a big fight for Wolfe, too. The hard hitting Indian already has the Northwest welterweight title and picking up the middleweight belt would project him far into the national scheme of things. Llllard has lined up a very promising list of preliminary fights for the title card. Yesterday, he added a high polish to the card bv announcing that Georgie Price, the high flying Merrill fighter, would have a bout on the program. Last night, Llllard was still angling for a good opponent for Price and will probably announce his choice sometime today. The semi-final fracas is a return bout between Ralph Weiser, the Beatty crowd pleaser, and Bobby Da hi, of Boise. Weiser won a close nod over Dahl in their first en counter and this one is promising enough for a main bout on a nor mal fight card. Two feuding Klamath fighters mix in one preliminary. This one puts Rudy Carlson in with Darrell Harrington. The two welterweights could put on a great battle. Bruce Miller Is down for another preliminary and his foe hasn't been announced yet.
