The Thrill Sport Sweeping The Nation! HARD TOP GRACES SATURDAY - 7:30 P.M. 11 BIG EVENTS YREKA SPEEDWAY YREKA, CALIFORNIA By WALLACE MYERS Northwest Middleweight Champ Earl Turner has agreed to put his title on me line m a fight here next Friday night against Dick Wolfe, Northwest welter King, promoter Mack Llllard an nounced this morning that Turner and Wolfe had agreed to the bout. Getting the two top fighters in the fold for the title bout here is a big feather in Lillard's cap. The Iicht shapes as a natural and promoters up and down the ' coast have been angling for the j promising prize. Lilian! announced some time ago he was seeking a big fight for Klamath fans but j didn't reveal until a couple of days ago what he had in mind. , FAME Turner's clever ring work has gained him national prominence and Wolfe is rapidly coniiiig-under the national spotlight. Wolfe al ready holds the Northwest welter weight title. The two battlers have met twice in non-title goes and both fights have been great. Their first meet ing all but stole the show from Ezxard Charles and Joe Kabul when the two heavyweights met in Portland several months ago. Turner and Wolfe, fighting in the semi-final, put up a sizzling scrap with Turner winning a close deci sion. Lillard stole a march on other promoters by bringing the two to gether here a few weeks ago for their second fight. Wolfe had begged for the return bout and al most upset the California Negro. One judge gave the fight to Wolfe, one favored Turner and the third called it a draw. Since then, Wolfe has added 1 considerable sheen to his reputa tion by knocking over opponents on a Canadian tour. The hard hitting Indian has plenty of power and his ring savvy1 is increasing steadily. That means Turner should have a very tough evening here next Friday. But the champ is one oi the most polished ring workman in the country and Wolfe's power can't win for him unless he can connect often enough.. HARD HITTER Turner's not a mere boxer: he has plenty of power himself. He won nis miaoieweigni title oy flattening K. O. Merrill in Van couver with a murderous body blow. Lillard was hesitant about an nouncing prices for the champion ship card here but lmally decided to peddle ducats at the regular charge. The light is costing Lillard considerably more than usual fights here and he would have probably been justified in hiking prices lor tne snow. "I promised the fans here a good fight card ... I think they richly deserve one," said Lillard this morning. "And I've decided to put the show on for the usual prices. I may lose my shirt but I dont think so: this Turner-Wolfe fight is a real prize for Klamath and I think the fans will really turn out." Lillard is still 'working on the preliminary fights and should be ready to announce the complete card tomorrow. He's being very careful with the entire card and is angling for top-notchers in the prelims. Tickets went on sale today at Dick Reeder's. SPORTS-IN-BRIEF FOOTBALL Los Angeles NFL champion Rams traded fullback Dick Hoerner and 10 other players to Dallas Tex as for All-America linebacker Les Richter. BASEBALL Boston Marty Marion, man ager of St. Louis, Browns, was suspended indefinitely by Ameri can League president Will Harridge for Wednesday run-in with Ompire Bill McGowan. NOTICE! The Beavers picked up seven in. eluding Joe Brovia's second inning home run off Art Del Duca and Earl Johnson. Portland added the run needed to win the fifth. CLOSE ONE Hollywood grabbed a 2 to 1 vic tory over San Francisco, capitalis ing on a walk, a sacrllice, an error and a force play to put over the winning tally in the seventh in ning. It was the tenth straight loss tor the Seals, who skidded down into seventh place. Another winning streak was snapped in Los Angeles, the An gels whipping Oakland, S to 0. aft er the Acorns had captured seven straight. San Diego and Sacramento toiled 15 innings before the Sad Sacs won out, 6-5. The setback cut the Pa dres loop lead to one game. HELP WANTED The hapless San Francisco club, desperate for talent, reached into its Yakima farm outfit Thursday to appropriate for its own use the only two players batting over .300 Bill Andring, who will take over the first base spot, and Gene Klin gler, who will replace Bill McCaw ley in center field. Yakima is in last place in the Western International League standing and the Seals are only one game out of the Coast League basement. Oregon State stirred hopes for an upset Thursday by clouting Duke's ace Joe Lewis for six runs and a 6-4 lead in the second in ning. But the potency of Duke's attack smashed state in the end.
