'Rye and old crop soybeans set the pace as the market renewed the active, strong trade of late last week. Even wheat firmed In the ses sion, which contrasted with Its easiness of last week. That was 2 cents above the former ceiling: The wholesale price Friday ranged from 7 j to 8 j cents for No. 1-A California long whites from Kern County. Retailers Indicated a price of 10 to 11 cents a pound would prevail. The retail ceiling was about 'j cents. Ton Quality potatoes continued in short supply, but the shortage was expected to case. LIVESTOCK. SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO LP (USDA) Cattle 450: slow; light. early inquiry: load lots steers, hel lers and range cows absent. Few canner and cutter cows 15.00-19.00; few utility and commercial slaugh ter bulls 26.00-28.00; practically nothing else offered. Calves 10: mostly medium and rood 250-400 lb ranee slaughter calves; undertone barely steady. CHICAGO I The S22.00 hog returned to the stockyards Mon day after an absence of more than a week. Prices ranged steady to 50 cents higher with sows particu larly in demand. Cattle were sheep steady to weak. partly accounting tor the strong er hog market was arrival of only 11,000 hogs over the weekend, com pared with more than 14.000 sold a week ago. Most barrows and gills sold-from. $19.50 to 521.75 and sows from $16.50 to $19.00. ' Good to prime steers ranged from $30.00 to $35.25 mostly with a load getting up to $35.50. Good to low-prune heifers brought $30.00 to $34.50. Cows topped at. $26.00, bulls which showed the most strength at $28.00, and vealers at $37.00. Fol lambs grading choice to prime sold at one price. $29.00 to small slaughterers while like grades of spring lambs took $31.00. Ewes were $12.00 and below. Calif., Is the newly named manager of the local agricultural fair. Announcement that a manager had been hired was made today bv Chester J. Main, chairman of the (air board, created some time ago after authorisation for a fair district here was made by the state legis lature. He Is expected to arrive Tuesday. Kellett has had four years ex perience as a fair manager at Gait and has been associated with the fruit marketing Industry, He is married. This year's fair will be handled on the same plan as the annual Rotary sponsored Junior Livestock Show with some additions. All pre miums will be handled bv the fair district. The show will be held on the high school grounds and the show and sale will be handled by the Rotary Club. The fair board has decided to hold a saddle horse event for ex hibitors 16 years or younger In addition to other features which will include the showing, ludglng and sale of livestock, entries bv young homemakers and organisa tions in competition in cooking, sewing, etc. No buildings will be erected in time for this year's show. The fair district is negotiating for lease of lr.nd from the V. S. Bureau of Reclamation, directly south of Tulelake to be used as a fair grounds. Negotations are held up nt the present time but the board hopes to have the kinks ironed out in time to start the buildings next year. The fair district Includes Butte Vnllev also. The fair board is toying with the idea of a contest for a name for the 10-A Agricultural Fair. He was brought to Klamath Val ley Hospital by Kaler's ambulance, for treatment of back aud hip in juries. He told State Police he dropped off to sleep, swerved the car and turned over. He was driving a I960 Willys Jeepster, bought ui town last weekend. Lightning Hits Basin Woods Another thunderstorm flashed across portions of the Klamath Basin ' this morning, and fire guards focused wary eves on areas where lightning may have ignited forests.
