Support Down
80 Percent
WA81IINOTON I Government
losses from farm price support
operations are runnlnn only about
a fifth of what they were a year
sko, the Agriculture Department
reported Thursday.
Losses for the first ten months
of the current fiscal year, which
ends June 30, were $54,015,000. This
compared with 276 million dol
lars for the corresponding period
last year.
The reduction largely reflects th
fact that fewer products are being
supported. Most of this year's loss
es were sustained on sale of dried
egg, beans, wheat and peanuts.
The government's Investment In
farm commodities under support
programs totaled $1,609,000,000 on
April 30. This compares with a
peak of $1,300,000,000 in the spring
of 1950.
