And the nation's No. 1 favorite gets a new lilt with the addition ol ver satile ready-to-eat all-bran cereal. The all-bran adds an extra fillip that puts the cake in a class by Itself. The recipe Is a quick-method one- bowl cake tnat's easy to oo. Ana. like most quick method cake, it stays moist and fresh longer than cake made by the longer conven tional method. Top off the rich cake with a shiny chocolate icing and plan to serve it on your next really im portant entertainment. FUDGE CAKE S ounces unsweetened choco late, finely cut a cup boiling water i cup all-bran I i ups cake sifted flour ' j teaspoon baking powder a4 teaspoon soda 4 teaspoon salt 114 cups sugar V, cud shortening 1-3 cup thick sour milk or but termilk 1 teaspoon vanilla flavoring 2 eggs Place chocolate In mixing bowl: add water gradually, stirring until chocolate Is melted: add bran. Sift flour, baking powder, soda, salt and sugar into cooled chocolate mixture Add shortening: beat 2 minutes (about 300 strokes.) Add sour milk, vanilla flavoring and eggs: beat 2 minutes (about 200 strokes). Four into 2 greased 8-inch round pans and bake in preheated moderate oven (350 F.) about 30 minutes. When cool frost with Fudge Frost ing. FUDGE FROSTING Z ounces unsweetened, choco late, finely cut " 1 cups sugar 7 tablespoons milk ... V cup butter or margarine 1 tablespoon light com ayrup V teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon vanilla flavoring Place all ingredients except va nilla flavoring in saucepan and bring to boiling point over low beat. Cook, stirring constantly for one minute. Cool to lukewarm. When cool, add vanilla flavoring and beat until thick enough to spread. Yield: 2 cups frosting (enough for sides, filling and top of Fudge Cake) DRINK CP Tall cool drinks are in order for warm weather. Combine a 12 ounce can of apricot whole fruit nectar with an equal amount of pineapple juice and ginger ale. Serve with ice cubes In tall glasses and a straw for sipping.
