Extends Drive Officials of Klamath County Chapter. American Cancer Society, decided at a luncheon report meet ing Wednesday at the Pelican Cafe, to continue their funds drive till the end of May. Elton Thomas, drive chairman, announced funds obtained In the drive, would not be revealed till the campaign s completion. Commendation was given mem bers of the medical auxiliary for its work in the cancer organization, and It was asked to continue Its work for the coming year. During the meeting It was point ed out that 25 cents of every dollar collected in the drive go for na tional research; 60 cents for local service and education and 15 cents to pay for production of movie, pamphlets and other educational material. It was also noted memorial funds for persons dying of cancer have oeen made possible, with the don or's name entered at the State Hos pital In Portland and credit given the local chapter for the amount donated. Truckers and hiahway engineers over the whole nation are await ing the results, because Oregon was the pioneer In the welght-nille tax system. The highway engineers don't think a fuel lax Is a fair' measure of the amount of damage done by trucks. They say a plate tax favors the big truckers at the expense of the little ones. The engineers claim that If the welght-mlle tax is eliminated, the result would be that the private car owner would have to pay a much larger share of road costs. CAMPAIGN Durlnir the next five months, the American Trucking Industry will campaign hard in Oregon to wipe out the welght-mlle tax.
