Dinner For Billy Jones On , Birthday Dr. and Mrs. Neil Black, 3083 Portland, entertained with a birdi day dinner In their home, April 13. In honor of Billy Junes, son oi Mr. and Mrs. Bill Jones. Bonanza. Billy was two the day of the dinner, and he blew out that many canales on the oeauuiul cake which centered the table. Others present were his moiher and father Mr. and Mrs. Laurence Brown. Colonel and Mrs. George Titus. houseguests of the Brown's enroute to belgium. and the B:ack children, Kathy, Janey and Bruce. Dr. B',ack and Laurence B-ow.i are Billy's godfathers, and Mrs. Black is his godmother. AAUW Convene At Gearhart Four members of the Klamath Falls uranch American Association of University Women attended tne elate conference at Hotel Gearhart April 17 18 and IS. uiey were Mrs. Wlllard Duncan, state social studies chairman. Mrs. Paul Buck, state finance chairman. Mrs. Charles Larkin, local branch president, and Mrs. William h. Wales Jr., vice president. The conference was well attended and received interesting reports Irom the slate chairmen. The state president. Mrs. Creceue Fariss, Portland, chose the theme. 'Patterns for Performance'' ana worked It cleverly Into her report Mrs. Edward Lanphier, San Mateo, represented the national level and gave the address at the banquet Friday evening. Announcement of the recipient of the stale fellowship award was a surprise during this banquet. Miss Beryl Holt. Salem, state fellowship award chairman, introduced Mrs. Mvrtle Dawson. Portland, who told of' her plan to work for her Ph.D. at the University of Washington with this award. She is in the Speech Correction field and told oi great strides in rehabilitation oi people who have lost their speech due to cancer of the larynx. This , is Uie field in which she will study. Mrs. C. D. Winston, Ashland, regional vice president, gave an address at the breakfast Saturday he spoke on "Regional Patterns. ' " The 1853 AAUW Stat Conference will be held in Klamath Falls Evergreen Garden Club Plans for the Evergreen Garden Club spring flower show. June 14. are nearing completion, and a ten tative schedule has been dram up by a committee working under the chairmanship of Mrs. Clark Ken dall available soon to those In terested in arranging exhibits. Specimen blooms and arrange ments are Included in the schedule. Special emphasis is being placed on iris which grows so beautifully in Klamath Basin, and which is the club flower. Junior division will feature minia ture arrangements and exhibits representing foreign countries. The April meeting of the organ ization was devoted largely to very interesting and instructive talk on soil-building, by Mr. A. R. Halvorson, of the county experi mental station. He listed the ele ments required by growing plants and discussed methods of supply ing these nutrients to non-productive soil. Several samples, previous ly tested at the station showed a high alkaline content. The need for drainage to facilitate the elimina tion of the alkali in this area was particularly stressed. Election of officers followed the discussion on soils. Mrs. Ray Gar rison, president; Mrs. Joe Cox. vice president: Mrs. Clark Ken dall, secretary: and Mrs. Leo Ka- mard, treasurer. Yacht Club Fishing Derby Klamatn Yacht Club Fishing Derby will be held Sunday April j 27, rain or shine according to Com- modore Howard Pernell Harry Schoenberg is In charge of the Derby and he has several worthwhile prizes to be awarded to the winners. The prizes were donated by Poole's. The Gun Store, Bell's Hardware and Don Diven's Sporting Goods. Beulah and Mike Regan are serving breakfast from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Only club members are eligible to compete for the prizes. However, guests may fish. Fishermen must return to the club house with their catch by 4:80 in the afternoon for the welghlng-ln. The Regans will start serving the usual Sunday dinners at that time.
