It is nign time we naa a nation-

River-Damming Action

By JOH.V KAMPS
WASHINGTON W The score
in Congress thus far this year on

programs is two down, and a third :
strikeout seems more than pos
sible. .A bill to authorize the 800-million
nllar Central Arizona project in
the Lower Colorado River has been
etuck in the House Interior Com

sign it will be dusted off for final
action noon, and there's doubt that
the commltee would approve it.
The House interior reclamation

hearings late last month on a bill
to authorize the 357-mlllion dollar
Hells Canyon Dam on the Snake
River in Idaho and has set no re

old-fashioned kind caused by lux

This kind of gout is dying out.
Poor man's gout is best described
by the Encyclopedia Britannica as
lollows:
"Gout may also alfect persons
who observe the' strictest temper
ance in living, and whose only ex
cesses are In tne direction oi over
work, either physical or intellec
tual." Naturally, you understand that
what I had was the poor man's
me. Too much temperance? uver'
work? Or could it have been the
aftermath of chewing too mtny
lead pencils in grammer school?
Gout strikes chiefly in the big
toe, the heel, and instep, or the
thumb. I'm a heel and instep man
myself. Personally. I have never
met a thumb gcut sufferer. It's
probably a tough occupational
problem with hitchhikers.
Many people don't realize how
gout feels. It feels as if an invisible
madman were trying to stuff a
white hot anvil into your foot. You
have an urgent tiesire to bite to
death anybody that ccmes within
three yards of you. If anybody ,u
the same room even breathes heav
ily, you can feel it. A lly landing
on your foot is like a knife thrust.
Never laugh at a man wim the
gout, podner, unless you want to
make a lifelong enemy. But pat
him on the back gently, gently
and tell him you understand. He
won't believe you. but he'll remem

Fighting on the 155-mile ground

light.
The heaviest action Sunday was
east of Kumsong on the central

The Allied raiders then withdrew
