Tnee are a few conclusions reached an a result of a survey conducted by Helen McCully, McCall's rood Editor, to secure background for her eight page food article "Just Like Mother Used to Make" which appear In February McCall's on the newsstands January 23. Featured In McCall's February food article, as a result of the sur ' vey are: Roast beef It Is the most fond ly remembered meat with steak second and stews third. Roast chicken it was the over whelming fowl favorite. Turkey was a weak second, despite its I festlveness. - Apple pie the favorite pie et all age groups from all sections. Liking for apple pie shades down as It goes west. Lemon pie is strons In the 31-30 age group. Folks under 21 have strong lik ing for chocolate pie. Chocolate pudding it placed second to rice pudding as the overall favorite pudding but was first with the under 21 group. Although there is a strong liking among adults for "food they re member from home" 92 per cent of men still prefer it, 91 per cent of women there is wide difference of opinion among regional groups. Only 72 per cent of New Englanders still prefer childhood dishes while mid-westerners prcfeV native food 100 per cent. Fort Klamath Women Meet For Valentine Fun FORT KLAMATH At the regu lar meeting of the Civic Improve ment Club in the clubhouse on Friday afternoon, Feb. 1, plans were made for a card party to be sponsored by the club this month. A tentative date of Feb. 22 has been set for the affair, subject to change in the event it conflicts with the basketball tour nament scheduled to be held in Klamath Falls sometime in Feb ruary. The following committees were appointed to make arrangements for the card party: cards. Mrs. James Van Wormer. Mrs. Richard Varnum and Mrs. Frank Strahan; kitchen and refreshments, Mrs.' Frank Denton and Mrs. Frank Ed wards. Bridge, pinochle, canasta and games will be featured, a guest prize will be awarded. Re freshments served at the close of the play, all for a nominal admis sion fee. Proceeds will be turned Into the Club treasury. As the sponsoring organization of the local scout pack, the C.L Club received at this meeting the char ter of Explorer Post No. 134, pre sented for 1951 by the National Council of Boy Scouts of America. In addition to sponsoring the three groups of scouts, the Club Is also sponsor of the Horizon and Blue bird divisions of Campfire girls in this locality. Announcement was made by Mrs. Raymond S. Loosley, chair man of the church and school committee, that commencing on January first, church services are being held at 3 p.m. each Sunday instead of in the morning as pre viously, with Rev. C. EUery Ech lin. pastor of Chiloquin and Ft. Klamath Methodist churches, con ducting the Sabbath services. Welcomed as a new club mem ber at this time was Mrs. Wil liam Brewer. At the close of the business ses sion, 'an innovation in the way of sales was introduced, when instead of the usual white elephant sale in which articles are offered for sale wrapped, contents unknown, items to be sold were worn, un wrapped, by each club member present, no article exceeding fitly cents in value. The new method proved highly successful, no mem ber buying some unwanted article to be put aside for future refer ence on the occasion of another white elephant sale. An enjoyable social hour round ed out the afternoon, with the hostesses, Mrs. Frank Denton and Mrs. Edward K. Loosley, serving refreshments at a table colorfully decorated in the Valentine . motif. Bright red candles in holders fash ioned from red apples, red ribbon streamers, and individual Valen tine place cards at each plate, all combined to carry out the theme of St. Valentine. Called upon by the hostesses to tell of some per sonal humorous or - embarrassing experience, each member present responded with an anecdote, with Mrs. Don Veatch carrving off the prize for - the best story. Present for the afternoon were Mrs. Jess Rightmier. Mrs. William A. Page, Mrs. James Van Wormer. Mrs. Don Veatch, Mrs. Ravmor.d S. Loosley, Mrs. Frank Edwards. sVilliam Brewer. Cut each grapefruit In half: scoop out the pulp, cut the pieces of grapefruit into bite-size portions. Add small chunks of red apples, banana slices and pineapple to the pieces of grapefruit. In the mean lime, notch the edges of each scooped-out grupefruit half with scissors or sharp knife. Fill the grapefruit shell with fruit salad and - serve with sandwiches or crackers for luncheon. If you re using grapefruit sec tions for a sulad. don't toss out the peel use it in candled form. To make It, cover peel from two honey-whito grapefruit with water: acid one, teaspoon of salt. Boll 30 minutes: drain, again add water to cover, and boil lor 30 minutes. Continue until peel Is tender. Drain ana i cup sugur, !a cup water, and 2 tablespoons corn syrup.
