Farm Writer WA8HINOTON, Ui Uncle Sam 1( urging farmers to declare an aggressive war against rats The rural rodent, says the agri culture department. Is eating enough grain to create a serious (ood production problem. The agency estimates Uiat rats alone eat about 360 million bushels of grain annually. That is nearly 10 percent of the quantity farmers feed annually to produce the na tion's supply of pork, beef, poultry and eggs. The department also estimates that between 300 million und 600 million bushels of grain are lost each year to-(nsects. "Complete prevention of losses by rodents and insects." the de partment says, "would save more than enough grain to eliminate the prospective grain deficits during tiie next few years and greatly re duce efforts needed otherwise to increase production." ..uiie conceding that complete elimination of such losses is not possible, the department says far mers can utilise rat and insect control measures which would greatly reduce these losses. Tex has .been ennouneing that he'll be in Klamath Falls Christmas ni?ht to sing with Boldy's orchestra. The band is already 'practicing Tex's arrangements sent by him, of "Black Strap Molasses," "Shrimp Boot' end "That's What I Like About the South," which Tex es guest vocalist HI in9 at the Armory Dance tomorrow night. The grand finale of the West-Hitchcock series of Christmos pro grams will be heard tomorrow, Christmos Doy, from 2:00-30. Mrs. Beuloh Mushen will be the organist, Rev. Dwoyne Proett will give the reading, and the choir of the Peace Memohoal Church will sing many beautiful Christmos hymns, among them "Fairest Lord Jesus." To night's West-Hitchcock program is at 9:30 ogain, and features Rev. Proett at the organ, Carl Hagel os soloist, ond Rev. David Barnett as norrator. Paul Alexander is the onnouncer and orranger of all of these programs. We believe the sponsor deserves a lot of credit for presenting this fine series each year. Christmas Eve tonight and KFLW and ABC offer these special broadcasts for your enjoyment and in commemoration of the Christ Child's birth. At 10:15, "Story of the Nativity" with Edwin C. Hill in his traditional presentation of the Story, with appropriate music. At 10:30 "The Trinity Church Chimes" will be sounded for one minute. Historic Trinity is famous financial district church in New York. Then portion of the religious service from the Cathedral of St. John the Divine with a Christ mas message from the Bishop of N.Y. At 11:00-12:00, a live broadcast of soectol Christmas service from the First Presbyter Ian Church in Klamath Foils. Tomorrow "Betty Crocker" will toke listeners across the Pacific to hear how o group of wounded Korean veterans ore celebrating the doy. At 5:00 p.m., children will enjoy "Christmastime, Hollywood, USA", o radio show from the film center feoturing Edoor Bergen ond Chortle McCarthy, omong many others. 7:00 p.m. "Greotest Story" will offer "No Room ot the Inn." At 7:30, another kiddies' story, "The Christmos that Almost Never Was," ond ot 9:00, o whole hour of Christmos Carols sung by glee clubs ond choirs composed of em ployes Of five industrial organizations. Churchill To Address Congress WASHINGTON, I British Prime Minister Winston Churchill will address a Joint session of con gress when he visits Washington next month. Churchill is due shortly after New Year s to confer with presi dent Truman. They have met three times before in 1945 at Potsdam, In 1940 in this country when Churchill made his Fulton, Mo., speech, and last year in Washlng- Vice President Berkley an nounced yesterday Churchill will talk to congress "about January 17."
