When tender, add mushrooms, fresh or dried, chopped parsley which have been fried in butter, i tea. pepper. 4 tea. marloram or mace, clove ot garlic minced and salt If neces- SaMi'x all these Ingredients togeth er and bake in a greased casserole for hour In a moderate oven Dried mushrooms should be soaked for a while before frying. (Recipe of Mrs. William Rajnus) Vanocka (Christmas Bread) ft cups flour 'i cup butter 3 eggs, whole 1 cup sugar Ground rind 1 lemon. 2 yeast cakes i cup raisins 4 cup chopped almonds 7 tea. mace Enough milk to make stiff dough. Let rise like light bread. Divide dough into 9 pieces. Braid four pieces together, lay on bot tom of pan covered with heavy brown paper, well greased. Then braid three pieces together, place on top the four-piece braid. Then braid two pieces of doughlay on top the three-piece braid. Let rise. Bake one hour in 375 oven. Just before baking, brush with slightly beaten egg white. Makes one huge loaf, keeps well with aging increasing the goodness. This can be made ahead and frozen. Serve with tea or wine during holidays, (Recipe ol Mrs. Marie Kalina). Carp With Black Saace Remove intestines from carp, rinse inside of fish with vinegar and save the bloody vinegar for later use. Cook for one hour: 1 medium onion, chopped 3 stalks celery, chopped 1 carrot, sliced i root parsley, chopped 1 cup rye bread crumbs 1 cud hard ginger bread crumbs 10 whole black peppers 10 whole cloves 10 whole allspice 'i cup walnuts or almonds About 8 or 10 whole dried prunes or cup raisins Rind ' 2 lemon !i cup sugar browned with ,4 cup butter 1 cup vinegar 4 cud beer .. Salt to taste ' Add enough water to cover the fish. Then add fish and cook until tender. Remove fish and olace on platter. To the sauce add bloody vinegar and boil for about 1 min- VI e. Strain the snnce over the fish and decorate with sliced carrots, prunes and nuts. An added cud of red wine will improve the flavor of the sauce. The sauce has a sweet sour flavor, more or less vinegar can be used according to t-tste. Fish is best when epten 3-4 days after It was preDared. Carp i the onlv f'sh prepared this way.
