The answer they dine wisely but

berry sauce, mashed potatoes rich
and fluffy, Brussels sprouta and
onions agleam with butter.

slices and puts no strain on the
waistline.

John, who are helping grandmother Mrs. John I.lskey, prepare tho holiday bird Mrs.
I Uskey raiseil the prime gobbler on tho home ranch on Ixwer Klamath lake. Christmas
dinner will be cooked in the big, roomy farm kitchen. Mr. and Mrs. Liskcy are matern
al grandparents of the young onlookers.

mas relish raw and refreshing la j
a light-hearted auggestlon. It can
be made In advance and kept sev
eral weeks, leaving time at the
last minute to wrap up the pres
ent or help Johnny wind up his
new train.
Tangerines, the delicious citrus
fruit, alway get Invited to every
Christmastime celebration. But
Just to get an extra chuckle from
Munta and to add one more deli
cate touch to the family feast, why
not bake mem with apices and
march them In with tho turkey?
Polnsellla Grapefruit Halves
To prepare, cut grapefruit in
halt; remove core If desired. Cut
around each section, loosening fruit
from membrane. Do not cut around
entire outer edge of fruit. Leave
red peel on apple, cut In thin
wedge-shaped slices; cut each slice
between grapefruit sections to re
semble polriscttla. Place cherry In
center.
Florida Christmas Relish
(1 quart)
Four cups cranberries, 2 oranges,
quartered and seeded, 2 cupi
sugar.
Put raw cranberries and oranges
through food chopper. Add sugar
and mix well. Chill In refrigerator
several hours before serving. For
Christmas garnish spoon raw rel
ish in center of Florida orange
slices. NOTE: This relish will keep
well In the refrigerator for several
weeks.
Baked Tangerines
(6 servings)
Six Florida tangerJnes; 2 table,
spoons seedless raisins, 2 table
scoona sOear. teasDOOn clnna-
Imon, dash of salt, 1 tablespoon
melted butter or margarine, cup
Florida orange Juice.
Make five vertical cuts in the
tangerine akin from the blossom
end to about 1 Inch from the bot
tom; then pull peel down and
turn the pointed ends In. Remove
white membrane. Loosen tangerine
sections at the center and pull
apart slightly; set In shallow bak
ing msn. comDine remaining in
gredients except orange Juice, and
pile into center of tangerines. Pour
Juice over alt and bake In a hot
oven (400 degrees F.) for 16 min
utes, basting during baking. Serve
as an accompaniment with meat.
HOLIDAY FRUIT CAKE
4 cups seeded raisins, 2 T grated
lemon rind, 1 T cinnamon, 1 T
allspice, 2't cups of water or cot
fee, 2'a cups chopped nutmeata,
4 cups sifted cake flour, 5 t double
acting baking powder, 2 t salt,
cups sugar, 'i cup butter or
shortening 2 well-beaten eggs, 1
I vanilla.
Combine raisins, lemon riml.
spices and water In saucepan. Cov
er and simmer gently for eight
minutes. Drain, pressing out as
much liquid as possible. Measure
liquid and add water or coffee to
make l'.-i cups, and reserve. Grind
raisins, and nutmeata.
Measure sifted flour and add
baking powder, aalt and sugar:
sift 3 times. Cream shortening
thoroughly, and add flour mixture,
eggs, vanilla and reserved liquid.
Stir until all flour Is dampened.

Add ralsln-nut mixture and mix
thoroughly. Turn Into two litil
inch pans which have been greased
and ilned with wax paper and
greased again. Bake In a moder
ate oven (3SO deg.) for one hour
and 15 minutes or until done. When
cool, remove from pan, leaving
wax paper on until ready to serve.
