Prof. Winch agreed, "but lots of thlns have been going on for a long time about which we seem to be Just finding out the fucts. Winch, in the university's depart' ment of sociology, said he proposes to learn about love: "By actually working with cou pics, we will try to discover what their marriage expectations were and how they selected their mates on that basis "Then we will try to find their ffrattflctions and frustrations. He wants to find out If these needs were satisfied In marriage, and why, and what can be done about It. The study Is expected to lake about 18 months. GOP Women Man Canteen By RUTH BLACK When you enjoy that cup of cof fee or tea, the doughnuts and cook ies, the relaxation and visit with lricnds that Is available In ' the canteen after you ve made your contribution to the Red- Cross blood bank here la Klamath you are reaping the harvest of hours of work put In faithfully each month by local Republican women who nave sponsored the canteen rom lis Inception. Local Republican women 1 through their chairman, Mrs. Os car Kittredgc, volunteered to run the canteen and have put In many nours of hard work to set It up every time the bloodmoblle comes to town. REFRESHMENTS After the donor's blood has been taken and a period of rest has followed, he or she Invariably goes gratefully to the canteen where various Kinds of Juice, coffee. Iced or hot tea, and water are served doughnuts and cookies. Children of donors left In the bloodmoblle nur sery aro also served fruit Juices and refreshments In the canteen. When the last blood donor has been served at the end of a busy day at the blood bank, all the pro fessional and volunteer personnel of the bank are also served, the canteen equipment Is cleaned uo. and the weary workers are lucky to oe nome oy i or g o clock In the evening. Mrs. o. M. Howie, vice-chair man of the local chapter of the Republican Council of Oregon Women, has been In charge of the canteen lor the Republican group since its Inception. All the mem bers oi tne group are on call for work at the canteen and so far the iowowing nave put In enough hours to earn pins and uniforms: Mrs. W. F. The day of the blood bank's arrival canteen workers ar rive early to set up their section oi tne oiooa bank's efficient oper ation and the workers stay at their stations until the day Is over and sre available, for any duty that msv present Itself In the canteen "It's lust main hard work but 1 love: It," raid one of the canteen workers. One may hire babv sitter to look after her children so that she can give her time to the canteen. Another may stay tip In the wee- small hours finishing the Ironing which she left to heln at the blood bank canteen, Still others give their leisure lime when thev might be playing bridge or golf to contribute to this project without compensation. All had cancers ol the curvlx, the neck of the uterus or womb In all, the cancers were detected very early, when they were still confined to one spot, and before the woman had absolutely any signs of having cancer. This early detection was an tmportuut fact. In two others, also with early cancers, the hormone brought ; chnag i0WKrd normal. Dr. H changes toward normal. Dr. H. r; Nleburgs of the Medical College of Oeorgla, Augusta. Oa.. told the society's seventh annual meeting In these two. there were areas In which their cancers seemed to be gone, and the cancers had changed to a dlllerent type, ha said. One woman had taken the hormone pills only six weeks, and the other hadn't taken them reg ularly. Two women with advanced can cer of the curvlx also got the hormone. They felt better and bleeding stopped. Their csnceri have not disappeared, but In one the cancer changed to a dlllerent .type. Both women earlier had re ceived X-ray treatments. Dr. Nleburgs said the results were Interesting, but can not be regarded as a cure. He said It Is much too early to use the hor mono generally for this kind of cancer, a leading site of cancer In women. Only eight patients have been studied, and the longest treatment has been only 24 weeks. Csncer generally Is not considered cured ; unless there Is no recurrence wilh- In five years.
