Eisenhower appar ently have airreed not to make any effort to oust Ouy O. Oabrlelson as chairman of the Republican na tional committee. And evidence accumulated that Pres. Truman may not be ready to pick a successor to Wlll'am M. Bovle Jr. when the Democratic na tional committee meets here next week to accept Boyle's resignation as chairman. Influential Republicans who are getting ready to launch a move ment to draft Elsenhower for the 1953 OOP presidential nomination were reported shying away from any move to replace Osbrielson. 8en. Ives (R-NYl, an Elsenhower backer, told reporters he knows of "no concentrated movement" to oust the chairman. The Eisenhower camp was said to feel that if any such effort were successful in the face of Oabrlelson's demonstrated deter mination to hang on to bis Job, It would be Interpreted as party admission there was some sub stance to charges against him. Osbrielson has denied he did anything wrong in seeking more time for repayment of an RFC loan to Carthage Hydrocol, Inc., a company he represents as presi dent and general counsel. W. Stuart Symington, RFC director, called Oabrlelson's activities nor mal and routine. Some Eisenhower backers think the OOP chairman is supporting the bid of Sen. Robert A. Taft of Ohio for the party's presidential nomination. But they apparently can't agree on any candidate to run against Oabrlelson, even if they were of a mind to challenge his committee leadership. Although Taft has been miffed at Oabrlelson for taking the polit ical edge off charges against Boyle, the Ohio senator is reported to l"ve told his supporters he wants to avoid any fight within the com mittee before next year's nominat ing convention Boyle has denied that he used any influence in an attempt to get an RFC loan for the American Llthofold 'Corp., a St. Louis prun ing firm. . He said he was resigning as Democratic chairman because of 111 health. Sen. Welker R-Idaho told a Philadelphia audience last night he regards Boyle's "resigna tion under fire" as "a tacit admis sion that Uie president of the United States considers him to be a political liability In the coming elections." Mr. Truman was said by asso ciates still to be looking for a man to fill Boyle's place. A Democratic senator, who asked nat to be quoted by name, said he had been informed that if the president doesn't find the right mail by the time of the October 31 committee meeiing. the com mittee will be asked to let the Job go unfilled for a while Tills presumably would leave Mrs. India Edwards, vice chair man, as the top ranking official until a successor to Boyle could be chosen.
