Dec. 13 i Alvin R. Warren said yesterday a petition to recall Governor Langlie had reached the secretary of state's office pre maturely Saturday, but documents to that end would be filed officially Wednesday. Warren said he spoke as state or ganiser of a newly-formed Trade Union Jobs and Security council. "We plan to have 200 to 300 per sons, in a delegation that will be in Olympia at 1:30 p. m, Wednesday to officially file recall petitions against the governor." he asserted. Account He said the action was Intended to "bring the Langlie administra tion to account for its betrayal not only of Initiative 172. but of other laws enacted to protect the living standards and welfare of the people from attacks of monopoly upon them." Warren said the council was or ganized here September 9 and now has branch offices in Bellingham. Sedro Woolley. Everett. Port Ange les and Aberdeen-Hoquiam. The petition sent the secretary of state was. he said, forwarded to Olympia by mistake from Grays Harbor county. It reflects, he said, "the intense anxiety of the people to get going on the recall." Secretary of State Earl Coe said 220.760 signatures would have to be obtained to force a recall election and estimated a poll would cost the state S800.000. Warren claimed the backing of locals of numerous CIO and AFL unions and the independent Machin ists union. The officials of none of the mentioned unions could be reached over the week-end for comment. FASHION CLEANERS o Ph. 5563 129 So. 7th " Free Pick-up & Delivery! The only trouble is he came on the air. locally, alter the tune had been correctly guessed by a Mrs. Ola Peth in Cleveland. Ohio. The tune. Incidentally, waa Lord Remember Me. It Is found In Luke, chapter 33. ver-e 42. That la what Pearson, "pre1 m dieted'" after Lv"T t h e program t , . was over. W s O wrist actually happened, a c cording to Norm Oberst. L W com. binatlon man. la that Pearson made a tape re cording of his If ' -h broadcast before 1 J it came on the - airways. A ' i So actually l' you might say, I'NDKRJIILL he correctly predicted It before hand. But It !id sem rather peculi ar for a big-time commentator, such as he, to be coming out with the answer afterwards. Anyway it was good for a couple of phone calls here In the news room and the control room. Talking about phone calls we were certainly swamped here the other evening when "The Fat Man" didn't come an at the usual time. Seems like that program hat quite a following here. The same thing has happened sev eral tlmea this year, and It be. comes rather annoying at times to explain something which can't be controlled here. The fault lies down In California where fight broadcasts hold up air ing of the popular detective story. The program is not releared there till after the fights are through, and by that time there Is usually another network program on the air. So, there Is no Fat Man. Incidentally. Oregon stations don't carry those fight broadcasts because of a blue law prohibiting carrying of programs tponsored by brewery concern;. The law prohibits such sponsored programs till after ten o'clock in the evening. Must be rather irritating to local fight fans who would like to hear the big ones and can't because of some silly law. One of the phone calls coming in Friday night was not only complain ing about the lack of the Fat Man. but also griping about the type of programs in general aired in this locality. Seems the Individual concerned doesn't like chAtlish cowboy and In dian, and detective stories that pre dominate the airways these days. I agree that they are irritating in abundance, but don't forget thai they are not originated here. Blame the network headquarters for this state of affairs. Another lady phoned the other day asking what happened to all the good programs that ABC used to have hut year. The answer Is simply a matter of money. NBC put out more money than ABC this year and bought up all Hie good stare and their pro grams. CBS also had a hand In this buyuig spree. Again the answer doe not He here but at network headquarters. I myself wish there were more variety of programs to ault every taste In this locality, but again that la a matter nt nioitey to establish a studio, and eventually get network privileges. So you ran see friends, It Is very easy to pick up a phone and ask why don't you people do this or that. It la another matter entirely to do something constructive about it.
