PACE EICHTEEN HERALD AND NEWS, KLAMATH FALLS. OREGON Weaving, Ceramics, Classes Planned The Klamath Art Assorlstlon held It regular monthly meeting Wed nesday, November SO In the Art Center gallery. A short business meeting was con ducted by Clayton Burreu. Robert Banister announced hat classes In weaving and ceramics, under the supervision of the Uni versity of Oregon Extension Divi sion, would start on January first University credits will be liven lor them courses end an accredited teacher will te sent from Eugene to teach the classes which ill be held at the Art Center. The tuition fee will be $10.00 for each session. The speaker of the evening was Albert Downs, art Instructor in the Klamath schools. His talk was on "The Home Approach to Ceramics and he explained fully how pottery making can oe a hobby that any one can do In their own home. He showed examples of several methods of pottery raxing, and told of the the many experiments be has mads In the development of local materi als. He showed examples of pottery ha hsd made using s gla made from the black sand on Bun Moun tain and one using pumice ash. He la now experimenting with other lo cal natural materials. . After his talk Downs demonstrat ed the thrown method of making pottery on a potter s wheel. He later Save a demonstration of the casting method and slab method of pottery making. The paintings of Robert jsani and Rolph "lelke were exhibited on , the studio waus ana by all members present. Orlnrold have announced the engagement of their daughter, Jean, to James A. Plank Jr. Jean is a graduate of Dunsmuir high school and is employed In the local Cali fornia Oregon Power company of fice as a cashier. Plank, the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Plank Sr, was graduated from Dunsmuir high In 1947. He; is employed In the local Southern Pacific crew dispatcher's office. No date has been set for the wedding. Surprise Party Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Hallett were pleasantly surprised .last Sunday at their home on Wlard street, when friends gathered to wish them hap piness and congratukulons on their recent marriage. A gilt was pre sented to the couple. After cutting their tiered wedding cake refreshments were served to Mr. and Mrs. Leland Pope. Mr. and Mrs. William Walker, Mr. and Mrs. Paschell Hodges. Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Falvey, Mr. and Mrs. Billy Falvey and daughter Terry of Mer rill, Mr. and Mrs. Vera Bloomberg, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Turner and Garda, Mr. and Mrs. William Bailey. Mr. and Mrs. Blake and Kay. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Blake. Unable-to at tend were Mr. and Mrs. Paul Lewis of Merrill. Quota Club Robert Banister. KUHS art In structor, delighted members ot Quota club at their Monday night dinner meeting at the Pelican, with his talk on the progress and ability ot Klamath Falls art students, and with his display of many outstand ing examples of their work. He stated that the students are very receptive to and adept at all art courses offered, and that, if Klam ath Falls la to become a permsnent rtsidence tor a larger population in future years, more culture ot all kinds must be made available In the community. About SO members were present at the meeting. Mrs. Banister and Mrs. Jessie Lyle were guests. Alice Vitus was program chairman for the eiemng. There will be no business meeting of the Quota club in De cember. Malin Rainbow Girls Meet MALIN The Malin Rsinbow Girls held two regular meetings in November. At the first meeting, it was de cided that all the toys that the girls were making would be turned in the next meeting. The toys are to b sent to the orphan children at Forest Owe for Christmas gifts. Emma Wilde Is giving prises for the two best. Winners are to be an nounced at the last meeting In De cember. Bos worth Jr., formerly of Klomoth Foils, staged o one-man ort exhibit in Medford recently, where the Bosworths now reside.
