THE DALLES. Nov. 12 (A Two
highway accident, near here yes
terday cost the lite of a truck driver
and sent a man and wife to a hos
pital with critical Injuries.
State police said truck driver Ar
thur L. Sawyer. 39. Umatilla, was
pinned beneath a large trailer truck
he was operating on highway 97.
He rammed an embankment and
the truck turned over as he Jumped.
In Oeneral hospital her. with mul
tiple Injuries are Mr. and Mrs. Rich
ard McGregor. Ttgard. The man,
30. suffered chest Injuries and frac
tures of both knees and his wife,
28, leg and arm fractures and se
ver, head and possible Internal In
juries. Police said the Tlgard couple's
car crashed head-on with a truck on
highway 30. The truck driver es
caped Injury.

mistice Day festivities her. last
night.
A long, colorful parade wis wind
ing its way through town at the
time. One of the chief attractions
was a small mounted cannon being
fired by some fellows from the 40
. otriclal merrymakers of the
American Legion.
As the cannon unit passed Balti
more and Centre street the city's
busiest Intersection the boys let
go with the cannon once more.

The pavement crumbled, water
gushed forth and hundreds of spec
tators went scurrying for cover. Be
fore It was all over, several store
basement were flooded and the
street was ankle deep In water.
The 40 Ac 'ers rolled on, their
cannon silenced for the reminrfr

rade grimly waded past the Intersection.
