And thst pleasant caller will fce from th Welcome Wagon. Mr. Crl Meson, who is now heading the Welcome Wagon service here, spends her time Timing new people who hav settled In Klamath Falls. Th Welcome. Wagon lde lu begun by Thomas W. Brunts of Memphis. Tenn. who iu I newspaper man there. He ws also a student of history and during his studies he became Impressed with the welcomuig service that the pioneers of the early west gave new settlers. Since the esrly settlers fervently hoped that new people would come to Join them, when they received word that new people were, on weir way m uinr wiw yywimis-'.uwmw'owvey.v menl, they sent a woman out to welcome utrm. Brisgi felt that the Idea was well worth keeping and thst it could be used to help newcomers feel more at home and thst they could be come assimilisted Into the com munity more quicltly. The Welcome Wagon service grew and. since Its conception in lt:i. It now is Internstlonal with service In eoo cities, some of which are In Canads. Australia and South America. Tr service which was originally ln ded for newcomers in order to make them hsppy In their new community, hi now been extended ta encaged girls and mothers of new babies. The newest service Is calling upon young ladies on their sixteenth birthday. The Welcome Wagon association j hoofs thst the young people will j remain In the community where they were warmly received. Mrs. Mason, who has been with the Welcome service since March. was trained In the Welcome Wagon school in Hollywood. Calif.
