At 1 o'clock, a poUuck picnic luncheon wu enjoyed, long tablet placed under the pine fairly groan ing with the wewht of food of every conceivable variety, In the well known Fort Klamath traditional atyle. Each party attending brought a contribution to the lunch, with watermelon and Ire cream rounding out the feast. Coffee for the picnic crowd was made by Mrs. Frank Denton and Mrs. Katherlne Nichols, the latter being a local visitor for the summer from Busanvllle. Calif, ' and a former resident of many years here. Picnic lunch, the men organized a baseball team on which R. 8. "Seth" Dixon was the star player, with Mrs. William C. Martin almost stealing the honors when she sub stituted at the bat several times, to the great amusement of the specta tors. The day's pleasure was marred and the baseball game brought abruptly to an end about o'clock when Charles "Chuck" Zumbruu. well-known local resident, collapsed while watching the game. Zumbruu had withdrawn from playing in the game a short while before when he mas eeired With a severe cramp In his left leg. and was standing among the spectators when he collapsed. The sudden acute attack of illness was evidently brought on by over exertion in playing ball. Zumbrun was taken by Mr. and Mrs. Dixun to the home ot his nephew and niece, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Zumbrun, at the Zumbrun ranch, where he la reported as improved at this time. The Incident dampened the highj spirits of the gathering and plans were cancelled lor further festiv ities which were to be held that evening, Including building a huge bonfire. Zumbrun la employed by the Warm Spruifts Lumber company at Madras and In company With E. W. Brewer of Fort Klamath, also em ployed there, had come here this past week-end especially to attend the ptcmc. On Saturday night preceding the picnic, a dance was held in the clubhouse, sponsored by the C.I. club, and many out-of-town old time residents here for the get together were In attendance at the affair, which was a fine success both socially and financially. The committee in charge Included Mrs. William A. Page. Mrs. Joanna Tay lor and Mrs. William C. Hackler. The committee In charge of all arrangements for the picnic was Mr. and Mrs. Ouss A. Page. Mrs. Frank Denton and Mrs. Katherlne Nichols. A hearty vote of thanks is tendered by the community to this committee, whose members worked like Trojans to make the affair the success II proved to be. Mrs. Page advises that she has a her home several articles of Vilver ware and dishes left on the grounds ) and the ow ners of jtnit may call mere ana retrieve them. It Is announced that a similar picnic and get-together will be held next year, at the same time and place, and all old-time residents are Invited to attend, regardless of the initial year of residence in Wood river valley.
