Lee Kast. the hometown Yuba City boy and Marysville favorite, muffed a ground ball in left field in the tenth Inning but night to hand the Klamath Falls Oema a 8-6 victory over the Braves. The score was knotted at 5-S at the end of regulation playing time. Pinky Hesse Leads Pinky Hesse slapped the ball at a Srt clip during the last seven Oema games to take over the bat ting leadership of the Klamath Falls baseball club with an average of J70. The averages are unofficially ftg-gure-l through last Sunday's game with the Redding Browns. The ball -slamming outfielder went to the plate -6 times during the seven games and collected IS hits, among them ten singles, three doubles, a triple and a home run. He scored 11 runs himself, and ran his batting average from JS7 to 210. Hesse supplant Bob Casselli at the top of the list among the Genu. Casselli slid from -70 to 357. the same amount of decline that Hesse had in gain. Gordon Hemandes kept his aver age exactly at the J63 mark over the seven games and is second in hitting behind Hesse. Stan Gtlson. Joe Nicholas and Nile Jordan added two pitching victories each in the seven-game period and Gilson tops the list of Gems hurlers with a record of 12-3. Jordan has 14-t and Johnny Lope man 14-8. Bob Ca.lli sacrificed him to second and Pinky Hesse singieu to left, sending Jensen to third. When Kast bobbled the ball Jen sen ripped off for home with what was Uie winning run. The Braves threatened In their half of the tenth when with one out Mike Fernandes dropped a throw at first base to put a Marys ville runner on. Then the Oems infielu came up with a double play to end the game. Pinky Hesse was the only Gem getting anything oft the hurling of Pete Swain. Hesse got four of the six hit alloted the Oregonians, all of them singles. It was the second time in a week the Klamath Falls club had thwarted Swam try tor his 14th victory. Bill Casey of the Braves was the Marysville cannon. He hit with men on bases and succeeded in driv ing home four runs. In the seventh Inning the bases were full end Casev cleared them with a double. The victory for Klamath Pitcher Johnny Lope man was his 15th of the sea-son. Pittsburgh clubbed Medford 21-3 to remain two games ahead of the Gems In Far West league standings, and third-place Willows topped Redding 4-2.
