OREGON FRIDAY, AUG. 12, 1949 CHURCH NEWS "Mission Festival" To Be Held The annual "Mission festival" of the Zion Lutheran church, Eleventh and High, will be celebrated on the ninth Sunday after Trinity this week. Special services will be held In the morning at 11 o'clock and In the afternoon at J:S0. Quest rpeak er al both services will be the Rev. Amos A. Schmidt. Portland, execu tive secretary of tha Northwest district of the Lutheran church. Robert Stevens will serve as or ganist and choir director for both services and will present a pre service or?n recital. He has chosen for the prelude "Fantasia In D Minor" by Mozart and for the of fertory and postlude. "On Wings of 6ong" by Mendelsohn and "Jesus Shall Reign" by Parker. The Zion senior choir will pre sent two anthems, "The Heavens are Declaring" by Beethoven and "Praise Ye the Father" by Oounod. Soloist at the 11 o'clock service will be Constance Hunt who will sing, "Come Ye Blessed" by Scott. The Sunday school and Bible class will meet at the regular time, 9:46 a. m. A potluck luncheon will be served at noon. The Zion Lutheran Laymens' league, directed by Forrest D. Shades, will hold Its regular month ly meeting Tuesday evening, 7:45 o'clock, In the social rooms of the church. A cordial Invitation to all services of the Zion Lutheran church Is extended. Moore Park Picnic By Church Set A church and Sunday school pic nic and barbecue by the Assembly of God will be held at Moore park Saturday at 2:30 p.m. Tha meal will be served at 6 p.m. followed by a fireside service and sing. "A Man of Like Passions" wil be the title of the radio message over KFLW at am. Sunday. The Sun day school lesson text is from Joshua 9:1-77 entitled "The Folly of Com promise." The Lord's Supper will be ob served at the 11 o'ckt-Jc morning service. The pastor's message will be "The Spirit of Wisdom and Rev elation" Ephesians 1:17. Three young men wil speak at the young people's service at 6:30 pm. "Three Lazy Men" will be their sub ject. At the 7:30 pjn. evangelistic serv ice Pastor Kelsey C. Prinzing will speak on the subject "Be Rot De ceived." Lander To Open Series At the 11 o'clock worship service Rev. Edward Lander, minister of the Community Church of the Brethren, 4273 Bristol off Summers lane), will begin a series of messages on "Allies of the Soul." The first of the series will be titled "Beauty." Others In the series will be "Truth4" and "Patience." The regular church, school, with Mrs. Jean Rlffey in charge, will meet at 9:45 a.m. There are classes for adults and for children of all ages. A nursery Is provided for chil dren up to four years of age during the morning worship service. The Women's circle will meet or Tuesday at 12, noon, for a potluck picnic In Moore park. Friends and neighbors are cor dially invited to all of the meetings. Communion At St. Paul's Services for Sunday at St. Paul's Episcopal church will be as follows: The collect epistle and gospel for the day will be for the ninth Sunday after Trinity. There will be an early celebration of the holy communion at 8 a.m. The reading of the morning prayer will be at 11 a.m., and the theme for the sermon by the rector, Rev. F. C. Wlssenbach, will be "On Prayer." Betty Glldden, who Is here on vacation, will be the soloist, ac companied by Mrs. R. O'Sulllvan. The Peace Memorial Presbyterian church, 4431 S. Sixth, will celebrate the Sacrament of Holy Communion on Sunday, August 14, at 11 am, The pastor. Rev. Dwayne L. Proett, has chosen for his Communion meditation, "Communion With Qod." Rehearsals began this week for a church variety show, "Some En chanted Evening," a forthcoming production. Aug. 12 i-n Government plans to build grain storage bins have sparked an up turn in the plywood market that In dustry spokesmen here said appears to have halted the decline In de mand. Officials of both the Associated Plywood Mills. Inc.. and the Spring field Plywood Corp.. reported the government program was one of the principal reasons for an Im proved market for their product. Jobbers and dealers are beginning to replenish their low Inventories, the spokesman said, reversing the trend of recent months when trad ers appeared to be waiting for further price cuts. The government program for grain bins will require heavy use of plywood.
