In the Taft-Hartley debate it came
out at the last minute, and was
beaten. The house then went on
and scut th whole controversy back
to th labor committee, where it
rests with no hope ot getting out
until next year.
A minimum wage bill waa the first
administration labor measure to
reach Capital Hill after the new
rengreia got to town last January.
This kill would hare raised the
minimum from 4 cent to 73
-
eventually $1, and brought
lions of new worker la under
wage-hour act.
The bouse committee finally ap
proved a 75-cent bill with fewer
changes in coverage. It would have
added about 5.000 000 workers to th
approximately 30.000.000 now covered
by the law.
The senile labor committee has
approved a bill raising the minimum
to 73 cents, and making a few other
changes, but omitting any large-
scale Increase In coverage. This Is
due for debate soon,
