After a fumbling atari, buying In terest sharpened and leading Issues moved up fractions to more than a point. Steels, rails and motors were among the strongest groups. Trading was brisk off and on but aalea figures were distorted as they were several times last week by heavy business In Commonwealth and Southern. Turnover was at the rat of around 1300.000 shares, of which CAS accounted for 300.000 or thereabouts. General Motors was a strong spot with a rise of around a point. Commonwealth and Southern matched its high for the year at 4N. Also up were U. 8. Steel. Beth lehem Steel. Chrysler. Southern Pa cific Goodrich. Montgomery Ward. American Telephone. Sinclair Oil. and Texas Co. American Woolen declined on lim ited turnover. The company Just announced price reduction on 1950 spring worsted which, a spokesman said, was one of the largest since the first world war.
