JULY 14, 1949 Scout Camp Staff Said 'Best Ever' Camp Makualla, th official Boy Seoul camp of the Modoc am council, lias on of the best staffs ver assembled to handle the ium- Her camp at Crescent lake. Headed by Kenneth K. Pearson, field executive from Bend, the camp has filled to capacity this week. With Del Yantls as program chair nan, DUlard Bhlpler a assistant, and Holup. H1U leading waterfront activities, this year's program is turning out to be one ol the best ver held. Others of the staff include Mytrle Bratton, head cook; Mrs. Ernst, as tstant cook; Darrell Palmer, pro gram aide; David Rasmuasen, ranger and camp storekeeper; Rich ard Landis, ranger and camp bugler; Bill BrandsnvM. steward and ranger and Robert French, steward, pro gram aide and ranger. A total of 103 Scouts and adult leaders vera present on opening day. Temperatures Leveling Off By The Associated Prea Temperatures leveled off to near ly normal marks over most of the country today. Cool air moved over parti of the northern plains and northern Oreat Lakes region, sending the mercury slightly below average figures. The mercury was In the high 40s and Ms in some of the cool belt early today. There were quite a few we spots. but no additional rain was reported In the northeastern drought area. However, some relief to the parched crops resulted from yesterday's showers. Rain frD today In parts of Illi nois. Michigan, Wisconsin, and an other wet belt extended from East em Virginia to the Carolina! and Into Georgia. Some showers also were reported In Tennessee and Eastern Kentucky, and In scat tered rections of the Rocky moun tains. Yesterday's highest temperatures included 112 at Yuma. Aria. 109 at Phoenix. Driggs, one of Americas foremost authorities on early American trails, will speak at the Winema hotel Monday. July IS, at a noon luncheon. Dr. Driggs gives In New York City, where he has taught English education for the past Si years.
