To Market
An outdoor fruit stand employing
several new building wrlnklea. has
been added to the front of Mallnry'a
market located al the "Y" of tha
lakevlew-Mrrrlll highway.
This 30 by 70-foot structure Is fit
ted with movable flex-o-glasa panels
for walls. These panels ran be taken
I out entirely, put In on the slda the
wind la coming from, or all secured
In place making a solid wall so that
the produce need not be moved In
side at night.
Tha stand Is primarily for selling
large quantities of fruit and vege
tables for canning, so that custom
ers need not wait In turn with other
grorery customers In the store when
all they want Is a few lugs of fruit.
Harold Mallnry, who la doing the
building himself st he finds time,
started the stand about three weeks
ago and will finish It for this sea
sou's canning. He plana to do his
own hauling of produce for tha
stand.

light saving time will stay that way,

new law to make a local ordinance

History
Study Set
CHIIXXjUIN, July 1 The history
of Chiloquin as a study In an
thropology and sociology la tha
basis of an eight weeks' project
being undertaken by Dr. Theodora
Stern of tha University of Oregon
anthropology division and the three
students taking summer school
work under his direction. Tha em
phasis will not be on personalities
but on racial groups and on or
ganizations and labor. ,
The group Is spending tha first
weeks In getting acquainted wllh
tha town. It surroundings and Its
Inhabitants, listing names of those
who will be able to trace various
phases of tha comparatively new
city, which waa Incorporated only
23 years ago. The last project on
this order done by Dr. Stern was
In the a lata of Virginia where the
family treea and written material
dated back some 360 yeara.
Material gathered this summer
will give tha basis for a research
paper and possibly will later be
Incorporated Into a broader writing
Including tha entire reservation.
Chiloquin Is thus tha basis of
anthropological work for three doc
tors this summer: Dr. Robert Spen
cer of the University of Minnesota,
who la doing a race and culture
study; Dr. 8. L. Creasman, who Is
continuing his work of tha past two
summers In determining the extent
of life In this area long before tha
memory of present men, and Dr.
Hlem. who Is tracing the history of
the vicinity since the coming of the
white man.

a senior at tha University from
Portland; Eleanor Ribbons, a for
mer Wave from New Jersey who
now calls Portland home, and Patri
cia Marks, from the University of
California who moved here from
England, where she had served In
tha Wrens, since the war's end.

PORTLAND. July 1 fcP) Assault
charges have been filed against two
man arrested here Thursday morn
ing In connection with the attempt
ed holdup of a Portland night club
owner, Barney Morris, on June 4.
The men. Char lea Lee Anderson
27, and John Joseph Vetter, 29, were
Identified by Morris. Their ball was
set at ISO00.
Two men forced the night club
operator Into his car In downtown
Portland early on the morning of
June 4. Morris said one man aat
beside him and made him drive his
ear while the second man followed
'.n another car. Ha managed to es
cape both of them by running Into a
parked automobile and racing away
on foot.
