And there's a reason lor tneir optimism beaidra the extensive pro (ram they have lined up for the gala western celebration. Tor the first time In the history of local rodeos, a allow will be staged at night. The Saturday performance at the fairgrounds, site of the cowboy capers, will be held at night under the newly-Installed light. The show will start at 7:30 p m. Sunday and Monday shows. July 3 and 4. will take place In the after noon, atartinc time 1 o'clock. There'll be bronc riding, team tytng, calf roping, bull riding, bare back riding, bulldogging. quarter mile race for registered quarter horses, a stock horse race, a best reined cow horse contest, and a special local feature, a race for locally-owned cold-blooded horse. Three cowboy have signed up so tar but It's still early with the cow boys on other shows throughout the country. Those who hare Inked the dotted line to date are Oene Pruitt, cham pion cowboy of the Rodeo Cowboy association: Jack Sherman and Bill Hancock, the Utter two also top flight performers. There's an impressive array ot events sandwiched in between the fairground performance, too. Reno Browne. Monogram western starlet, who Is not only pretty and blond but can ride a horse, too. will be here on a busy schedule ot appearances the first two days of the rodeo. And she'll have her famous Palomino horse. Major, with her. Miss Browne, who has starred in pictures with Johnny Mack Brown and other western stars, will make appearances at the Pelican theatre, the kids' parade, the kangaroo court, the fairgrounds and Cal-Ore. The youngsters will not be left out of the act. Saturday afternoon. 1 o'clock there'll be a special kids' parade with bicycle sections, mount ed sections, pet sections, doll buggy sections, costume sections and the soap box section thrown In for good measure. Preceding the parade for the small fry will be the the Roy Rogers movie st 9:30 In the morning Saturday, July 3. The main parade Is sched uled for Monday. July 4. The feature for the little guys and gals will be the calf scrambles, where boys and girls from 10 to 16 years old will hare the opportunity to lead a calf out of the ring and keep It for his or her own. The boys will scramble for the critters Saturday night and Mon day afternoon. The girls are sched uled for their contest Sunday after noon. Forty-fire calves have been do nated by local companies and In dividuals and more are expected. To date, there are 96 boys and 38 girls who hare signed for the beef-1 chasing events. j What Is a rodeo without a queen?
