OREGON THURSDAY MAY 27, 1948 Bus Company To Boost Fare For Oregon BALEM, May 37 M Pacific Greyhound lines and West Coast Trallwaya have asked permission to Increase Uie lr passenger bus fares in Oregon about 2S per cent. Public Utilities Commissioner John H. Carkln said today. Carkln said they have also askeil for similar Increase from the Inter state commerce commission to ap ply to Interstate travel. Pacific Oreyhound operates on the Pacific and Oregon coast highways, as well as on feeder routes. Wes: Coast Trallways operates on the Pacific highway. The Increases would range from 50 per cent for trips of less than 60 miles, to no Increase for trips of more Uian 300 miles. Carkin said he would hold a hearing here June 8 on the Orey hound request, and June 10 on the Trailways application. The present fare schedule for both lines Is: 15 cents a mile for trips of 300 miles or less, 1.4 cents for 301 to 350 miles, 1.3 cents for 351 to 400 miles, and 1.25 cents for more than 400 miles. The new fares would be: 2 cents a mile for less than 50 miles. 1.1) cents for 51 to 100 miles, 1.8 cents for 101 to 150 miles, 1.7 cents for 151 to 200 miles. 1.6 cents for 201 to 250 miles, and 1.5 cents for 251 to 300 miles.
