Progress Days Exposition
Air Show Has Everything
i From Wing-Walking Up
. A "fact iheet" with full Information about the Progress Dvs ex
position to be hrld at the municipal airport was prepared today by Uie
cnamucr 01 commerce aviation committee, sponsor or the event.
Here In the text of the statement:
' Sammy Mason's "Hollywood Hawks" will be the featured attraction 1
at the Klamath Progress Days Air Shows and Exposition, sponsored
by the Klamath County chamber of commerce. Mason Is a famous
itunt and precision flyer himself, with elsht years of experience at the
top of his profession. He has a troupe of equally proficient flyers and
performers making up a well-rounded and diversified thrill show.
Mason's show will be held at the Klamath municipal airport Monday
afternoon, May 31, at 1 p. m. This Is a legal holiday.
; 8ammy Mason has a variety of special air- show planes, including
a rebuilt Jenny of World War I vintage. This Jenny Is used In a re
vival of'the old wing-walking act. so popular after the first World War.
The wing walker hangs from the skids below the plane, walks along
Uie wings and climaxes his performance by standing on the top wing
while the plane docs two loops. At the top of the loop, while In an in
verted position with his head toward the ground and Uie plane above
him, this daredevil extends his arms and "makes like a bird,' accord
ing to advance notices.
Another performer does straight and delayed parachute jumps.
Still another, after a series of breath-taking aerobaUcs, picks up a ,
handkerchief from the ground with his wingtlp. Some of the other
acts are of a surprise variety so we can't tell about them In advance
of the show. All are strictly professional and uie best obtainable In
their class.
Buttons admitting to the Sammy Mason show and to the other
features of the Klamath Progress Days event are now on sale at the
Klamath Chamber of Commerce office and at many business houses.
A button costs $1.20, tax Included. Children 11 years old or younger
will be admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Refreshments
will be available at Uie airport.
A home-talent air show will be held at 1 o'clock Sunday afternoon.
May 30, under the chairmanship of Bud Arnold, who is an old hand
at aerobatics, himself. A good show Is assured, due to Uie number of
flyers here who were hot pilots in military service.
The exposition part of the event consists of displays of new cars,
trucks, tractors, implements, industrial equipment, boats and motors.
sporting goods, electrical appliances and building supplies. The ex
hibits will be set up in Uie huge double hangar built but never used by
the navy Jusi prior to giving up the local airport. There will be some
thing of interest to everyone In the exhibits. Displays open at 12 noon
on Sunday and at 10 a. m. on Monday.
